Summary
Some 2015-2022 F-150, 2017-2022 F-Super Duty and 2018-2022 Expedition/Navigator vehicles may exhibit poor air conditioning (A/C) performance, loss of airflow and/or engine cooling fans running continuously from high A/C pressures. This concern may be from the evaporator freezing up due to the evaporator temperature sensor being biased. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the evaporator temperature sensor.

This bulletin supersedes 21-2404.

Quantity refers to the amount of the service part number required to repair the vehicle.
Unit of Issue refers to the number of individual pieces included in a service part number package.
Piece Quantity refers to the total number of individual pieces required to repair the vehicle.
As Needed indicates the amount of the part may vary and/or is not a whole number. Parts can be billed out as nonwhole numbers, including less than 1.
Service Procedure
1. Run the A/C on maximum/recirculation and blower speed on high for at least 10 minutes with the engine idling, then drive the vehicle.
2. Using the datalogger on the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool, pull up the EVAP_TEMP PID in the front controls interface module (FCIM) to read the evaporator temperature and use a thermometer to measure the vent outlet temperature. Compare the temperature reading of the EVAP_TEMP PID to the thermometer’s vent outlet temperature reading during A/C use.
3. Is the temperature reading shown on the vent outlet thermometer colder than the temperature reading of the EVAP_TEMP PID?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – if Step 4 directed to restart this article, the repair is complete. For all others, this article does not apply. Refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics.
4. Recover the refrigerant and review recovered refrigerant amount. Was the correct amount recovered within +/- 1 oz. (0.03 kg.)?
(1). Yes – replace the evaporator assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00. The evaporator temperature sensor is part of the evaporator assembly.
(2). No – refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics. Once the root cause of the incorrect charge has been corrected, restart this article from Step 1 to confirm the customer concern is corrected.

- 3 Cans of R1234YF Geniune Honeywell Refrigerant Freon Cans
- Free Guage
- Perfect for recharging AC in the summer
- Fit type: Universal
- Part number: R134YFTOK
- Authentic HFO-R1234YF - This product should only be used in R1234YF systems. Please check the service sticker on your system or vehicle to identify the system type. This kit also includes a ZeroR service label for easy identification of the servce date and working pressures.
- 8 oz Cans – Cans are 8 oz net weight. Gas is measured in weight when compressed. Please don’t shake the can and think that it doesn’t feel full. Rest assured that it is. Different gases have different weights when compressed.
- Reverse Threads - These R1234YF cans are different from the older, more traditional, cans of refrigerant such as R134a. They have left hand, or reverse threads. This means you will need to turn the can counter clockwise to insert into your charging hose can tap.
- PERFORMANCE BOOSTER CHARGE KIT - ZeroR is a performance booster for use with R1234YF AC systems. You can use as many cans in your system as you wish, while being sure not to overfill the system with the included can tap with gauge.
- KIT CONTENTS - The can tap is 24 in length with a gauge metered for R1234YF systems. Standard R1234YF can taps will not work on ZeroR branded R1234YF cans, because our cans have a unique thread. 3 cans of ZeroR Permafrost in 4oz cans.
- NOT A Full Refrigerant - This product is a support fluid performance booster. It is a combination of two ZeroR products in one. The first part removes moisture (moisture can cause damage and reduced performance in the system), and the second part reduces friction (friction can reduce refrigerant flow and cause compressor damage)
- 24 in Charging Hose with Can Tap & Gauge - New longer 24 inch connection hose accomodates those harder to reach low side ports that were previously difficult to reach with a shorter 12 inch hose.
- 10 MINUTE INSTALL - Easy instructions are included and will take as little as 10 minutes to complete.
- This kit contains a 24in. R1234YF HD Brass Can Tap with Gauge & 2 cans of R1234YF. 1 can should fill the majority of empty systems.
- 24″ Heavy Duty Brass Can Tap & Gauge – New longer 24″ connection hose accommodates those harder to reach low side ports that were previously difficult to reach with a shorter 12″ hose. The can tap has reverse, “left-hand” threads, that matches the threads on the R1234YF can.
- Authentic R1234YF – This product is authentic HFO-1234yf and is purchased directly from an authorized supplier in the USA. This product should only be used in R1234YF systems. Please check the service sticker on your system to identify it's type.
- 8OZ CANS – Cans are 8oz net weight. Gas is measured in weight when compressed. Please don’t shake the can and think that it doesn’t feel full. It is, we promise. Different gases have different weights when compressed.
- Genuine R1234YF – This product is genuine and is purchased from a dealer in the USA. This product can only be used in R1234YF system. Please check the service sticker on your system to identify the system type. Installtion tools not included.
- 8oz Can – Cans are 8oz net weight and have reverse, or "left-hand" threads. Gas is measured in weight when compressed. Please don’t shake the can and think that it doesn’t feel full. Different gases have different weights when compressed. All cans are filled to the maximum pressure as allowed by the D.O.T.
