Summary
Some 2013-2016 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.6L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a lack of cooling caused by the A/C inlet line breaking at the compressor. This may be due to the oil cooler coolant lines exerting excess pressure on the A/C inlet line. When replacing the A/C inlet line, a support clip for the oil cooler coolant line should be installed to prevent contacting the A/C inlet line. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the A/C inlet line and adjust the gap between the A/C inlet line and the CAC hose.

Summary
This article supersedes TSB 18-2314 to update the Parts List.
Issue: Some 2013-2016 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.6L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a lack of cooling caused by the A/C inlet line breaking at the compressor.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:
- 2013-2016 Escape
- 6L engine
- Lack of A/C cooling
- A/C inlet line broken at the compressor connection

Service Procedure
- Replace the A/C inlet line. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 412-00. Do not install the underbody shield and retainers at this time.
- Loosen the clamp, remove the nut and decouple the charge air cooler (CAC) outlet pipe connection. (Figure 1)
- Install the zip tie retainer clip to reposition the oil cooler coolant hoses. (1). Install a zip-tie into the retainer clip. (Figure 2)
(2). Loosely install the zip tie retainer onto the oil cooler coolant hose.
(3). Slide the retainer up the coolant hose and insert the retainer clip onto the transmission oil pan stud above the CAC hose. (Figure 3)
(4). Position the coolant hoses so that there is a 32mm (1.25 in) distance between the A/C inlet line and the lowest point of the coolant hoses and tighten the zip tie to hold the hoses in place. (Figure 4)
- Make sure when repositioning the coolant hoses that they are not kinked or restricted in any way.
- Cut a 76 mm (3 inch) strip of urethane tape and install the tape onto the CAC outlet pipe where it contacts the oil cooler coolant hoses. (Figures 5-6)
- Install a piece of ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) tape over the urethane tape to act a secondary adhesion layer. (Figure 7)
- Install the CAC outlet pipe, nut and tighten the clamp. (Figure 1)
- Replace the A/C receiver drier element. Refer to WSM Section 412-00.
- Install the underbody shield and retainers. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00.

- Universal - ZeroR AC Refrigerant is a hydrocarbon that safely bonds with chemicals like R134a, R1234YF and R12. We can only advertise this product to be used in R134a systems due to EPA regulations in the USA on both R12 and R1234YF systems. EPA also prohibits mixing refrigerant types. See the description for all legal disclaimers.
- Easy - This product installs just as easily as any R134a products. Cans even have R134a threads and the majority of R134a can taps will work for these cans.
- 6oz Cans - Refrigerants are compressed gasses and are measured by weight, not by liquid volume such as water. All gasses compress differently and produce a different weight. ZeroR AC Refrigerant is low weight compared to R134a, but its performance is equal to 16oz of R134a.
- Eco Friendly – ZeroR AC Refrigerant is a 100% Natural gas unlike R134a, R1234yf and R12.
- Safe – ZeroR AC Refrigerant has a class 2.1 flammability rating just like the new R1234YF which is now used in 100% of newly manufactured vehicles. Under normal operating conditions this product presents no danger to its users when handled properly and used in systems approved for flammable refrigerants.
