SSM 45868 – 2016-2017 Escape/MKC vehicles may exhibit a lack of A/C cooling during PDI
Some 2016-2017 Escape/MKC vehicles may exhibit a lack of A/C cooling during PDI due to insufficient/low refrigerant.
If a vehicle displays this issue during PDI, do not assume that the plant did not fill the system to the proper level. In most cases, it will be due to a leak issue.
Make sure that you follow the diagnostics in the Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 412-00 for A/C Leak Detection.
We have seen multiple cases where the system is evacuated and filled to the proper level at PDI but the customer ends up coming back for an A/C repair due to a refrigerant leak.
