TSB 15-0098 ONE OR MORE POWER WINDOWS – INTERMITTENTLY INOPERATIVE IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES

FORD: 2015 F-150
2013-2016 Fusion
LINCOLN: 2013-2015 MKZ
2015 MKC

ISSUE:

Some 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2015 MKZ, 2015 MKC, and 2015 F-150 vehicles may exhibit one or more of the power windows becoming intermittently inoperative in freezing temperatures with no window diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) present.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Connect the Ford Interactive Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent scan tool, to the data link connector (DLC) and perform a self-test on the driver door module (DDM) and passenger door module (PDM). Were any window related DTCs present?
    1. Yes – this article does not apply, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-11 for normal diagnosis.
    1. No – proceed to Step 2.
  1. Based on the vehicle being repaired, proceed to the appropriate service procedure step.
    1. F-150 proceed to Step 3.
    1. Fusion/MKZ proceed to Step 4.
    1. MKC proceed to Step 7.
  1. Check the F-150 build date. Refer to WSM, Section 100-01. Was the vehicle built on or before 3/10/2015?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 9.
    1. No – this article does not apply, refer to WSM, Section 501-11 for normal diagnosis.
  1. Check the Fusion/MKZ identification number (VIN). Refer to WSM, Section 100-01. What is the first digit of VIN?
    1. If the first digit of the VIN starts with a number 3 proceed to Step 5.
    1. If the first digit of the VIN starts with a number 1 proceed to Step 6.
  1. Check the Fusion/MKZ build date. Refer to WSM, Section 100-01. Was the vehicle built on or before 3/24/2015?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 8.
    1. No – this article does not apply, refer to WSM, Section 501-11 for normal diagnosis.
  1. Check the Fusion/MKZ build date. Refer to WSM, Section 100-01. Was the vehicle built on or before 4/29/2015?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 8.
    1. No – this article does not apply, refer to WSM, Section 501-11 for normal diagnosis.

    1. Yes – proceed to Step 8.
    1. No – this article does not apply, refer to WSM, Section 501-11 for normal diagnosis.
  1. Replace both rear door modules (RDM). Refer to WSM, Section 419-10.
  1. Reprogram the DDM and PDM to the latest calibration using IDS or Ford J2534 release 95.05 and higher. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com.
  1. With the key-on engine running (KOER), run each window to the full up position and hold the switch up for 2 seconds, then follow it with a one-touch down so the modules learn the full travel position of each window.
    1. If equipped with memory mirrors, a relearn is required.

Service Information & Reprogramming

Software necessary to program electronic modules to the latest calibration level, perform module initialization (PATS), and set Programmable Parameters on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

Ford Module Programming (FMP) is a software application that allows subscribers to program electronic modules on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. It can be used for:

  • Reprogramming emission-related (OBDII) modules on some vehicles manufactured in 1995 and all vehicles manufactured from 1996 to the present
  • Reprogramming or reconfiguring non-emission-related modules on many vehicles (UBP and MS-CAN not supported)

In addition, module initialization (PATS) functions such as Keycode Erase/Reprogram and PCM Parameter Reset can be done using this application.
