Inside Liftgate Pull Handle Loose, Liftgate Trim Panel Loose – 2013-2014 Ford Escape

INSIDE LIFTGATE PULL HANDLE LOOSE AND/OR LIFTGATE TRIM PANEL LOOSE AT LOWER RIGHT CORNER – BUILT ON OR BEFORE 10/9/2013

2013-2014 Escape

 

ISSUE:

Some 2013-2014 Escape vehicles built on or before 10/9/2013 may exhibit a condition with the inside liftgate pull handle loose and/or the liftgate trim panel loose at the lower right corner of the liftgate.

 

Longer attaching screws and a new torque specification is now available for service.

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Is the inside liftgate pull handle loose and/or the liftgate trim panel loose at the lower right corner of the liftgate?
   1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
   2. No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-08 for normal diagnostics.
2. Check the vehicle build date.
3. Is the vehicle built on or before 6/16/2013?
   1. Yes – Replace the inside liftgate pull handle attaching screws. Torque screws to 1.3 Nm +/- .2 Nm (11.5 lb-in +/- 1.8 lb-in).
   2. No – proceed to Step 4.
4. Torque the inside liftgate pull handle attaching screws to 1.3 Nm +/- .2 Nm (11.5 lb-in +/- 1.8 lb-in).
   1. Do not tighten the screws beyond the specified torque specification.
