TSB 14-0157 WARM A/C OUTPUT – LACK OF BLOWER MOTOR OPERATION IN ONE OR MORE SPEED SETTINGS

FORD: 2008-2012 Escape
MERCURY: 2008-2011 Mariner

ISSUE:

Some 2008-2012 Escape and 2008-2011 Mariner vehicles equipped with electronic manual temperature control (EMTC) may exhibit a customer concern of warm A/C system output and/or lack of blower motor operation in one or more speed settings.

This may be due to a damaged blower motor resistor caused by water entering the heater core and evaporator core housing through the cowl.

This concern is sometimes misdiagnosed as a restriction in the A/C system as vehicles may exhibit abnormally high discharge and low suction pressures, erratic compressor and engine cooling fan operation, frosting of the suction line, and/or excessive amount of time for A/C system pressures to equalize after the vehicle is turned off.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Perform the blower motor resistor component check on the vehicle. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 412-00.
  1. Are the resistance measurements observed within specification?
    1. Yes – this article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00 for normal diagnosis.
    1. No – proceed to Step 3.
  1. Replace the blower motor resistor. Refer to WSM, Section 412-01. Proceed to Step 4.
