Summary
Some 2022-2023 Bronco Sport/Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.5L engine and 2022-2023 Corsair vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine, built on 01-Sep-2022 and through 06-Apr-2023, may exhibit a low coolant level with engine oil in the coolant and/or coolant in the engine oil. This may be caused by an internal oil cooler leak. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to test and replace the oil cooler.

Issue: Some 2022-2023 Bronco Sport/Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.5L engine and 2022-2023 Corsair vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine, built on 01-Sep-2022 and through 06-Apr-2023, may exhibit a low coolant level with engine oil in the coolant and/or coolant in the engine oil. This may be caused by an internal oil cooler leak. To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to test and replace the oil cooler.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:
- One of the following vehicles:
- 2022-2023 Bronco Sport/Escape with 1.5L EcoBoost engine
- 2022-2023 Corsair with 2.5L Hybrid engine
- Built on 01-Sep-2022 and through 06-Apr-2023
- Equipped with an engine oil cooler
- Low coolant level
- Oil in the coolant and/or coolant in the oil

Service Procedure
1. Remove the oil cooler. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01.
2. Drain the oil and coolant from the oil cooler.
3. Cap one coolant port of the oil cooler using an appropriate cap or plug.
4. Connect a rubber tipped blow gun to shop air regulated to 103 kPa (15 psi), and insert the tip into the other coolant port of the oil cooler.
5. Completely submerge the oil cooler into a suitable container of water and apply regulated shop air to the cooler for 10 seconds.
6. Do air bubbles continually escape from the oil passages around the oil filter or cylinder block mating areas?
(1). Yes – the oil cooler has failed internally. Replace the oil cooler. Refer to WSM Section 303-01. Determine engine condition and repair as necessary outside of this article.
(2). No – drain and blow out the water from the coolant and oil passages and reinstall the oil cooler. Refer to WSM Section 303-00. Perform normal WSM diagnostics for the vehicle symptom outside of this article.
