ISSUE:

Some 2013-2016 Escape vehicles built on or before 1/22/2016 may exhibit a wind or whistle noise from the exterior mirror(s) at highway speed.

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the suspected mirror assembly. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-09.

2. Remove the inner sail molded gasket/barrier. (Figure 1)

3. Inspect the cavity below the electrical connector where the wiring feeds into the mirror head for the presence of a foam block to prevent air flow. Is the foam block present? (Figure 2)
   1. Yes – proceed to Step 4.
   2. No – proceed to Step 5.

4. Is the foam block positioned properly to seal off all 4 sides and corners of the cavity? (Figure 2)
   1. Yes – this article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 501-00 for normal diagnosis.
   2. No – properly position the foam block and proceed to Step 6. (Figure 2)

5. Install a foam block with locally available material and cut to the following dimensions 30 mm x 45 mm x 50 mm (1 3/16 X 1 25/32 X 1 31/32).

6. Reinstall mirror.
