Lack of Power, In Ambient Temperatures Below 0 °C (32 °F) with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s) P2111 P2101 P2112 – 2013-2014 Ford Escape

TSB 14-0107 1.6L GTDI/2.0L GTDI – MIL ILLUMINATED – DTC P2111, P2101 OR P2112 – LACK OF POWER – AMBIENT TEMPERATURES BELOW 0 DEGREES CELSIUS (32 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT)

 

FORD: 2013-2014 Escape

 

ISSUE:

Some 2013-2014 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.6L or 2.0L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engines may exhibit malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) P2111, P2101 or P2112 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) memory, and in some instances a lack of power, in ambient temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F).

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Does the condition occur in ambient temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F)?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
    1. No – this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.
  1. Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent Scan Tool, check for DTCs.
  1. Does the vehicle contain DTC P2111, P2101 or P2112 stored in PCM memory and, in some instances, a lack of power?
    1. Yes:
      1. 1.6L GTDI proceed to Step 4.
      1. 2.0L GTDI proceed to Step 5.
    1. b. No – this article does not apply. Refer to PC/ED manual for normal diagnostics.
  1. Replace the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) tube and screen assembly from the CAC to the throttle body.
    1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-02.
    1. Remove the front lower splash shield. Refer to WSM, Section 303-04.
    1. Disconnect the CAC tube at the throttle body.
    1. Remove the nut at the transmission oil pan.
    1. Disconnect and remove the CAC tube at the left hand CAC connection. Refer to WSM, Section 303-12.
    1. Install a new CAC tube.
    1. Reverse the removal steps for installation. Repair is complete.
  1. Replace the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) tube and screen assembly from the CAC to the throttle body.
    1. Raise vehicle. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-02.
    1. Remove front lower splash shield. Refer to WSM, Section 303-04.
    1. Disconnect the fuel vapor separator tube quick connect.
    1. Disconnect the CAC tube at the throttle body.
    1. Disconnect and remove the CAC tube at the right hand CAC connection. Refer to WSM, Section 303-12.
    1. Install a new CAC tube.
    1. Reverse the removal steps for installation. Repair is complete.

Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage And Emissions Warranty Coverage.
