Drive To Clean Message in the Instrument Cluster (IC) – 2011-2015 Ford F-Super Duty

DRIVE TO CLEAN MESSAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) – BUILT ON OR BEFORE 3/26/2015

 

FORD:

2011-2015 F-Super Duty

 

2011-2015 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and built on or before 3/26/2015 may exhibit a Drive To Clean instrument cluster (IC) message.

This message may be present due to the diesel particulate filter soot load which would require the vehicle to be driven through a diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration cycle.

 

In some cases the Drive To Clean message may not clear after driving the vehicle through a DPF regeneration cycle or performing a manual regeneration cleaning with the IDS.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Does the vehicle exhibit a Drive To Clean message in the IC?
   1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
   2. No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnosis.
2. Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent Scan Tool to the data link connector (DLC). Using datalogger, does the vehicle have a DPF_LOAD_PCT parameter identification (PID) reading of less than 100%?
   1. Yes – reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM)/transmission control module (TCM) to the latest service calibration using IDS or Ford J2534 release 95.01 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com.
   2. No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnosis.

NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE’S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION’S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

Ford Module Programming (FMP) is a software application that allows subscribers to program electronic modules on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. It can be used for:

• Reprogramming emission-related (OBDII) modules on some vehicles manufactured in 1995 and all vehicles manufactured from 1996 to the present
• Reprogramming or reconfiguring non-emission-related modules on many vehicles (UBP and MS-CAN not supported)

In addition, module initialization (PATS) functions such as Keycode Erase/Reprogram and PCM Parameter Reset can be done using this application.

J2534 Device using Ford Module Programming (FMP) can Reprogram and Configure most Modules.
