AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicle | Model Year | Assembly Plant | Build Dates |
F-150 | 2021 | Dearborn Truck | September 25, 2020 through March 5, 2021 |
Kansas City | November 2, 2020 through March 5, 2021 |
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, it is possible an improperly assembled two-piece driveshaft was installed in the vehicle. The circlip used to secure the connection between the two driveshaft halves may not have been properly installed, potentially affecting connection of the two halves. Separation of the driveshaft can result in a loss of motive power without warning while driving, or unintended vehicle movement in park if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of crash. Customers may hear a loud clunking or banging noise or experience a vehicle that will only move in 4WD.
SERVICE ACTION
Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to inspect the driveshaft and if necessary, replace the driveshaft. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of June 14, 2021. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
PLEASE NOTE:
Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
SOLD VEHICLES
- Ford
has not issued instructions to stop selling/delivering or driving used vehicles under this safety recall. Owners should contact their dealer for an appointment to have their vehicles remedied as soon as practicable. Owners can continue to safely drive their vehicles.
- Immediately contact any of your affected customers whose vehicles are not on your VIN list but are identified in OASIS. Give the customer a copy of the Owner Notification Letter (when available) and schedule a service date.
- Correct other affected vehicles identified in OASIS which are brought to your dealership.
- Dealers are to prioritize repairs of customer vehicles over repairs of new and used vehicle inventory.
STOCK VEHICLES
- Correct all affected units in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
- Use OASIS to identify any affected vehicles in your used vehicle inventory.
DEALER-OPERATED RENTAL VEHICLES
The Fixing Americaโs Surface Transportation (FAST) Act law effective June 2016 prohibits a rental company from selling, renting or leasing vehicles subject to a safety or compliance recall. Please consult your legal counsel for legal advice.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Locate and record the Rear Driveshaft serial number on the wrap around label, located on the front half of the driveshaft. If needed, use a small dry rag to clean it off. To prevent removal of ink, do not use brake cleaner to clean off the serial number. See Figure 1.
2. Verify if the recorded serial number is listed in the suspect serial numbers in Attachment IV. Is the recorded serial number on the suspect serial numbers list in Attachment IV?
Yes โ Does not pass inspection. Document Rear Driveshaft serial number with a photograph, and then proceed to Step 3.
No โ Dealers must submit their photo(s) via Concern Reports using the “Report a Vehicle Concern” process. Concern Reports may be submitted via Web Based PTS or through Mobile PTS using any mobile device (e.g., tablets, smart phones). Recall is complete.
3. Calibrate the Anglemaster II Driveline Inclinometer, or similar inclinometer, by placing it on a clean, flat level section of the frame rail. See Figure 2.
4. Moving the inclinometer to the coupling shaft, measure and record the angle, keeping the inclinometer at the 6 o’clock position. (Angle 1). See Figure 3.
5. Moving the inclinometer to the rear tube, ensuring to use a flat surface of the rear tube, measure and record the angle (Angle 2). See Figure 4.
6. Using a digital caliper, measure and record the distance between the two service grooves, located on each side of the u-joint. This should be done at the bottom side of the driveshaft only (at the 6 o’clock position). See Figures 5 and 6.
NOTE: A measurement NOT taken at the 6 o’clock position WILL CHANGE the distance and COULD effect the outcome.
7. Send in recorded data (Angle 1, Angle 2, and distance measurements) as well as the photograph of the serial number to SSSC for determination as to whether or not the Rear Driveshaft needs to be replaced. SSSC will release driveshaft order based on need.
8. Did SSSC determine that a new Rear Driveshaft is needed?
Yes โ Replace the Rear Driveshaft. Follow Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures in Section 205-01.
No โ Rear Driveshaft Replacement is not required. Recall is complete.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
The table starting on page 2 contains a list of driveshaft serial numbers. Vehicles with a suspect serial number driveshaft will require an additional inspection be performed, per Attachment III, the results to be submitted to the SSSC for determination if driveshaft replacement is required.
Once the serial number has been located on the driveshaft, perform a lookup in this attachment using the โctrlโ + โFโ keys on your computerโs keyboard. Ensure to accurately type in the serial number (without spaces) to see if it is on this list. If it is, submit a contact to the SSSC with the additional information required to determine if driveshaft replacement is required, per Attachment III.

Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, it is possible an improperly assembled two-piece driveshaft was
installed in the vehicle. The circlip used to secure the connection between the two driveshaft halves
may not have been properly installed, potentially affecting connection of the two halves. Separation of
the driveshaft can result in a loss of motive power without warning while driving, or unintended vehicle
movement in park if the parking brake is not applied, increasing the risk of crash. Customers may
hear a loud clunking or banging noise or experience a vehicle that will only move in 4WD.
SERVICE ACTION
Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to
inspect the driveshaft and if necessary, replace the driveshaft. This service must be performed on all
affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of June 14, 2021. Dealers should repair any
affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
PLEASE NOTE:
Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to
the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of
up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.

PARTS RETENTION, RETURN, & SCRAPPING
Follow the provisions of the Warranty and Policy Manual, Section 1 – WARRANTY PARTS
RETENTION AND RETURN POLICIES. If a replaced part receives a scrap disposition, the part must
be scrapped in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal environmental protection and
hazardous material regulations. Federal law prohibits selling motor vehicle parts or components that
are under safety, compliance, or emissions recall.
EXCESS STOCK RETURN
Excess stock returned for credit must have been purchased from Ford Customer Service Division in
accordance with Policy Procedure Bulletin 4000.
REPLACED FSA PARTS INSPECTION AND SIGN OFF
Effective March 1st 2021 all parts replaced as part of an FSA repair with a repair order open date of
March 1st 2021 or later must be inspected and signed off on the repair order by a member of your
dealers fixed operations management team or an employee the task has been delegated to. If the
task is to be delegated to a non-management employee, the employee needs to be someone other
than the technician who completed the repair and needs to understand the importance of completing
this task consistently and accurately.
๏ท All parts replaced as part of an FSA repair should be returned to the parts department
following the Warranty Parts Retention and Return Policies.
๏ท Inspect the replaced parts to verify the FSA repair was completed.

Rear Driveshaft Inspection
REPLACED FSA PARTS INSPECTION AND SIGN OFF (continued)
๏ท If the FSA repair is found to be complete, the designated employee signs the repair order line
or parts return stamp area (electronic or hand signed) for the FSA repair indicating the parts
were inspected and validated to have been replaced.
๏ท After the parts have been inspected, they should be handled based on the guidance in the
parts status report in the Online Warranty System (Hold, Return, CORE, Scrap, etc.).
๏ท This process is subject to review during warranty audits for FSA repairs with a repair order
open date of March 1, 2021 or later. Any eligible FSA claims requiring parts replacement,
found not to have been inspected and signed off during a warranty audit will be subject to
chargeback and consideration for enrollment into the Dealer Incomplete Recall Repair
Process.
Note: Other approvals (electronic or handwritten) for add-on repair lines, dealer owned vehicle
repairs, and repeat repairs do not qualify as FSA parts inspection approvals. The post repair FSA
parts inspection process (electronic or handwritten) is independent from other warranty approval
requirements. The approval by the designated employee implies that the FSA parts were found to be
replaced and must be able to be clearly identified on the Repair Order. If multiple FSAโs require
approval on a single Repair Order, each applicable occurrence will require individual post repair
approval by the designated employee.
