2014 Escape vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine built on or before 12/19/2013 and 2014 Fusion vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine built on 8/17/2013 and through 11/5/2013 at the Hermosillo assembly plant may exhibit a transmission cold drive engagement, harsh transmission shift, runs rough, hard-start driveability concerns with or without malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)/wrench illuminated with DTC P061A (internal control module torque performance) stored in powertrain control module (PCM) memory.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or Scan Tool to the data link connector (DLC). Is DTC P061A stored in PCM memory?
- No – this procedure does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnosis.
- Yes – reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS or Ford J2534 release 93.01 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com.

Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) / Ford Diagnosis & Repair System (FDRS)
For use with compatible J2534 hardware devices. FJDS software provides Ford Module Programming functionality that covers 1996 to present Ford, Lincoln and Mercury module reprogramming functions, plus complete dealership level vehicle diagnostic software for all 2018 to present Ford and Lincoln vehicles. The FJDS software license includes time based access to the FJDS software, software updates and calibration files.
