| 6.7L – BOOST GAUGE FLUCTUATION DURING STEADY STATE HIGHWAY SPEED DRIVE CONDITIONS – BUILT ON OR BEFORE 3/14/2014 |
| FORD | 2011-2014 F-Super Duty |
2011-2014 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine and built on or before 3/14/2014 may exhibit a boost gauge needle fluctuation during steady state highway speed drive conditions with or without cruise control active.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Using Integrated Diagnostic Service (IDS) tool or equivalent Scan Tool, check all continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (CMDTCs). Are any DTCs present?
- Yes – this article does not apply, refer to Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnostic (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.
- No – proceed to Step 2.
- Using the IDS, enter powertrain control module (PCM) datalogger and select the following parameter identifications (PIDs):
- Make sure the engine coolant temperature has warmed up to 70 °C (158 °F) or greater by monitoring ECT1.
- EBP (psi/kPa)
- RPMDSD
- VGTDC (%)
- EGR_A_CMD (%)
- EGRTP_CMD (%) – TURBO_WGATE (%)
- ECT1
- Perform the following active commands and make a recording. Recording time should be set to 60 seconds with no pre-trigger time on the following PIDs:
- Command EGR_A_CMD to 0%
- Command EGRTP_CMD to 0%
- Command Turbo_WGATE to 0%
- Command RPMDSD to 1500 RPM
- Command VGTDC to 0%
Press record button and command the VGTDC from 0% to 100% in 5 seconds increments. Make sure to highlight VGTDC prior to pressing the record button.
- Compare the IDS recordings.
- Increasing the EBP scale and window size may help in viewing EBP response.
- Does the EBP (psi/kPa) start to fluctuate when VGTDC is commanded to 30% – 50%?
- Yes – replace the turbocharger actuator.
- No – this article does not apply, refer to PC/ED manual for normal diagnostics.
