Misaligned Cruise Control Radar Module
Misalignment of the radar module can result in the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) misclassifying an overhead object as an object in the vehicle’s path, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly slow and/or stop. Other safety systems that depend on the radar model (Pre-Collision Assist, Forward Collision Warning, and Auto Emergency Braking) could have diminished or lost function. These conditions increase the risk of a crash.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Escape two-wheel drive vehicles equipped with adaptive cruise control. The cruise control radar module was misaligned during production.
Remedy
Dealers will adjust the angle of the radar module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 1, 2024. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S39.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In all of the affected vehicles, the Cruise Control Module (CCM) may be incorrectly calibrated. This can result in unexpected Adaptive Cruise Control vehicle deceleration due to misclassification of an overhead object as an object in the vehicle’s path. This may also impact feature performance of Pre-Collison Assist (PCA), Forward Collison Warning (FCW) and Auto Emergency Braking (AEB), increasing the risk of crash.
SERVICE ACTION
Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to perform the Cruise Control Radar Alignment procedure to re-calibrate the Cruise Control Module using the FDRS. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. For new vehicle storage guidelines, refer to EFC13033, Storage Guidelines for New Vehicles. To assist vehicle owners to have this repair completed, dealers should:
- Arrange for a mobile repair at the owner’s location, or:
- Arrange to pick up the owner’s vehicle and drive it to the dealership for repairs.
- Re-deliver the owner’s vehicle after repairs have been completed.
- Pick-Up & Delivery and mobile service should be made available for all customers. Refer to the Rental and Claiming sections for further details.
Chronology :
On December 5, 2023, an issue pertaining to misaligned ACC radar modules was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Group (CCRG) for review. Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP) had reported high failure rates of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) at the Wheel Alignment Headlight Aim (WAHA) station. Ford determined that the cruise control modules on Escape Two-Wheel-Drive variants were calibrated using incorrect radar calibration board positions.
From January to May 2024, Ford monitored warranty data and reviewed the alignment angle data for each of the vehicles that were calibrated using the incorrect board positions. The alignment data was compared to the mathematical angular error resulting from the incorrect board height. Through this review, the team determined the number of vehicles in the suspect population that may have incorrectly passed WAHA.
As of June 3, 2024, Ford is not aware of any Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQs), warranty claims, field reports, or complaints related to this concern. Ford is not aware of accidents, injuries, or fires related to this concern.
On June 7, 2024, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
