VIBRATION OR BUZZING NOISE – BULKHEAD/DASH AREA – VEHICLES BUILT ON OR BEFORE 4/30/2007

 

FORD: 2006-2007 Fusion
LINCOLN: 2006 Zephyr
MERCURY: 2006-2007 Milan

 

2006-2007 Fusion, Milan vehicles built on or before 4/30/2007 and 2006 Zephyr vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine may exhibit a customer concern of a vibration or buzzing noise perceived to be coming from the engine compartment or instrument panel (IP) area.

The noise may be heard during light tip-ins at 25-50 MPH (40-80 Km/h). The most common occurrence is at approximately 50 MPH (64 Km/h) at 1500 RPM.

The buzzing noise is more prominent in cold ambient temperatures.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Remove the wiper arms. To install, tighten to 15 lb-ft (20 N-m).
  2. Remove the leaf screen.
  3. Remove wiper motor assembly. To install, tighten to 44 lb-in (5 N-m).
  4. Remove cowl bracket. To install, tighten to 62 lb-in (7 N-m).
  5. Remove cowl. To install, tighten to 62 lb-in (7 N-m).
  6. Remove evaporative emissions (EVAP) line metal shield. To install, tighten to 80 lb-in (9 N-m).
  7. Check the lines (brake/fuel/vapor) below the cowl on the right side of master cylinder grounding to the bulkhead.
  8. Ensure the two (2) black plastic clips are properly installed in the bulkhead and that the lines are properly installed in clips.
  9. Use flocked tape (fuzzy) 164-R4903 from Rotunda squeak and rattle kit (164-R4900) and tape around the Vapor Management Valve (VMV) hose at the junction of the clip or hose taking care not to deform the clip or VMV hose during installation. (Figures 1 and 2)

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
