Summary
Some 2018-2019 EcoSport vehicles equipped with a 2.0L Duratec engine and an automatic transmission and built on 1-Sep-2017 and through 28-Nov-2018 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0137 and/or P0141. This may be due to a faulty catalyst monitor sensor (CMS) as well as powertrain control module (PCM) software. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

Service Procedure
- Check the vehicle build date. Was the vehicle built on 1–Sep–2017 and through 28–Nov–2018?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 2.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnostics.
- Using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool or equivalent, retrieve DTCs. Is P0137 and/or P0141 stored in the PCM?
(1). Yes – replace the catalyst monitor sensor. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-14.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the PC/ED Manual for normal diagnostics.

NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE’S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION’S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
