Summary

This article supersedes TSB 19-2313 to update the vehicles affected, vehicle symptoms, and the production fix date.

 

Issue: Some 2019-2020 Edge/Nautilus vehicles equipped with an 8F57 transmission may exhibit a harsh engagement when shifting from PARK to REVERSE, PARK to DRIVE and/or REVERSE to DRIVE with no DTCs present. The vehicle may also exhibit a harsh upshift and downshift. These harsh engagements may result in an engagement clunk from the driveline. This may be due to various powertrain control module (PCM) software parameters for harsh engagements when shifting from various shifter selector positions. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram the PCM.

 

Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all the following criteria:

  • 2019-2020 Edge/Nautilus
  • 8F57 transmission
  • Customer complaint of one or more of the following symptoms with no DTCs present:
    • Harsh engagements when shifting from PARK to REVERSE, PARK to DRIVE and/or REVERSE to DRIVE
    • Harsh upshift or downshift

 

Service Procedure

1. Reprogram the PCM using the latest software level of the appropriate Ford scan tool.

NOTE: Advise the customer that this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle’s computer to learn the transmission’s unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process. This relearning process may result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days.

Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) / Ford Diagnosis & Repair System (FDRS)

For use with VCM I, VCM IIeBay, VMM and VCMM hardware devices only. The complete factory Ford Motor Company vehicle diagnostic tool that provides complete dealership level vehicle diagnostic coverage for all 1996 to present Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. The IDS software includes time based access to the IDS software, software updates and calibration files.

 

Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) / Ford Diagnosis & Repair System (FDRS)

For use with compatible J2534 hardware devices. FJDS software provides Ford Module Programming functionality that covers 1996 to present Ford, Lincoln and Mercury module reprogramming functions, plus complete dealership level vehicle diagnostic software for all 2018 to present Ford and Lincoln vehicles.
