Summary
Some 2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L, 3.5L, or 5.0L engine and built on or before 4-May-2018 may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P27B6 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

Issue: Some 2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L, 3.5L, or 5.0L engine and built on or before 4-May-2018 may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P27B6 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM).
Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
Service Procedure
- Connect the appropriate Ford scan tool or equivalent and retrieve DTCs. Check the vehicle build date. Is DTC P27B6 stored in the PCM and is the vehicle built on or before 4-May-2018?
(1). Yes – reprogram the PCM using the latest version of the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates.
- NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE’S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION’S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE- LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnosis.
