Oil Leak from PCV Valve – 2002 Ford Mustang

FORD: 2002 MUSTANG

 

Some vehicles equipped with a 4.6L 2V engine built before May 17, 2002, may exhibit an oil leak coming from the camshaft/valve cover area, where the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve mounts.

 

This leak may be caused by the stack up tolerance between the PCV valve and tube assembly.

 

ACTION:

Install hose clamp onto the PCV tube assembly at the PCV valve.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Verify that oil is present on the cam cover area.
  2. If oil is present, remove the Air cleaner outlet tube.
  3. Disconnect the tube from the PCV valve.
  4. Install hose clamp (376240-S100) onto tube assembly, with the worm gear down ( Figure 1 ).

  1. Re-install tube assembly onto the PCV valve.
  2. Tighten the hose clamp to 12-20 Lb-in (1.3-2.3 N-m).
  3. Re-install air cleaner outlet tube.
  4. Clean excess oil from the cam cover area.
  5. Check to make sure the engine has the proper oil level.
