Illuminated MIL with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0455 and/or P144C – 2017 Ford Escape

FORD: 2017 Escape

 

ISSUE:

Some 2017 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine built on or before 9-Jun-2016 may exhibit an illuminated MIL with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0455 and/or P144C stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory. This may be due to a disconnected or loose evaporative emission (EVAP) system underhood vapor line.

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent scan tool to the data link connector (DLC). Check for DTCs. Is P0455 and/or P144C stored in the PCM memory?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
    1. No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.
  1. Lift the engine cover and inspect for a loose or disconnected underhood EVAP vapor line connection. Is the underhood EVAP vapor line loose or disconnected? (Figure 1)

    1. Yes – proceed to Step 3.
    1. No – this article does not apply. Refer to the PC/ED manual for normal diagnostics.
  1. Inspect both sides of the underhood EVAP vapor line connection for debris and clean with shop air or a clean towel if debris is present. Reconnect the underhood EVAP vapor line.
