Production Dates : DEC 03, 2020 – FEB 18, 2022 Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Intermotive has determined that a small percentage of date code 0919 pcbs used for the PRPC had mask mis-registration causing exposed copper. Lab analysis showed the evidence of dendritic growth which caused the short between the power and ground planes. The failure happened after installation and prior to the busses being put into service. All four were infant mortality. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : The power to ground short causes excessive heating and the potential for combustion. All components are appropriately spec’d to UL 94v0 flammability rating so the chance for combustion prior to the short opening up is extremely small. Description of the Cause : Dendritic growth occurred between the power and ground planes causing thermal destruction of the module. Warranty will immediately send out a replacement harness for the repair and offer the necessary technical support during installation How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy is adding a fused data link harness that will prevent the thermal event from occurring. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : All remaining assemblies with date code 0919 have been removed from the supply chain. Additional high magnification inspection requirements are now in place for pcb’s to identify any exposed copper from the PCB vendors Recall Schedule : Description of Recall Schedule : Driverge Vehicle Innovations has the utmost urgency to resolve this recall quickly and efficiently. In response to a recall recently initiated by Intermotive, this notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of 49 CFR 577.13. May 25, 2022 Dear , This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Driverge Vehicle Innovations has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 and 2021 model year Ford Transit T-350 vehicles. As a result, Driverge is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for this inconvenience. However, we are concerned about your safety and continued satisfaction with our products. In these vehicles, part supplier Intermotive has determined that a small percentage of date code 0919 pcbs used for the PRPC had mask mis-registration causing exposed copper. Lab analysis showed the evidence of dendritic growth which caused the short between the power and ground planes. The failure happened after installation and prior to the busses being put into service. The power to ground short causes excessive heating and the potential for combustion. All components are appropriately spec’d to UL 94v0 flammability rating so the chance for combustion prior to the short opening up is extremely small. Forest River notified Intermotive of the first failures on 10/27/2021, 11/23/2021, 11/30/2021 and 12/7/2021. Parts to repair your vehicle are currently available at Intermotive. Your Driverge vehicle dealer will replace the impacted harness. If you wish to repair your vehicle without returning it to the dealer you can contact Intermotive Warranty at 530-823-1048 ext. 103. Intermotive Warranty will inform you how to identify if your vehicle has one of the impacted parts. If so, Intermotive will immediately send out a replacement harness for the repair and offer the necessary technical support during installation.
