Scratches Around the Sliding Door Blanking Panel – 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect

TSB 15-0085 SCRATCHES AROUND THE SLIDING DOOR BLANKING PANEL

 

FORD: 2014-2015 Transit Connect

 

This article supersedes TSB 14-0181 to update the vehicle model years.

 

ISSUE:

Some 2014-2015 Transit Connect vehicles equipped with sliding door blanking panels may exhibit small scratches on the sliding door body panel, where the blanking panel meets the body panel.

These scratches may be located on either door and anywhere around the blanking panel top, bottom or sides. The scratches may have broken through the paint to expose bare metal.

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Are paint scratches present on the exterior of the left or right sliding doors near the blanking panels? (Figure 1)
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
    1. No – this article does not apply.

  1. Remove the blanking panel. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-11 General Procedures.
    1. Blanking panel is removed in the same manner as fixed glass.
  1. Repair any scratches around and under the sliding door blanking panel, specifically those located outside the urethane bead and potentially exposed to weather (rain and humidity). (Figures 2-3)
    1. Refer to your paint system technical manual for preparation steps and paint application. In addition, refer to WSM, Section 501-36. Make sure the entire panel is clear coated.
    2. Make sure you mask/tape over the existing urethane bead to protect it from clear coat contamination.

  1. Install the blanking panel. Refer to WSM, Section 501-11 General Procedures.
    1. Blanking panel is installed in same manner as fixed glass.
