Summary
Some 2013-2015 Escape vehicles equipped with a 1.6L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and/or a transmission malfunction service now warning with only diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0741 and/or P1744 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to internal damage to the torque converter. To resolve the condition, repair or replace the affected internal transmission components as directed by the Service Procedure.

Service Procedure
- Remove the transmission. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.
- Remove and discard the torque converter.
- Remove the transmission fluid pump assembly for inspection. Remove and discard the fluid filter. Follow the transmission fluid pump assembly inspection procedure. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01 > Overhaul > Transmission > Steps 126-133. Does the transmission fluid pump assembly pass inspection criteria?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – replace the transmission fluid pump assembly. Proceed to Step 4.
- Remove the main control and solenoid body assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.
- Separate the main control from the solenoid body.
- Overhaul the solenoid body assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01. Do all the valves move freely?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 7.
(2). No – replace the solenoid body. Proceed to Step 8.
- Replace the line pressure control (LPC) solenoid (high variable bleed) and the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid (low variable bleed). Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.
- Replace the main control.
- Reassemble the transmission with a new torque converter and fluid filter. Refer to WSM, Section 30701.
- Reinstall the transmission. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.

Service Procedure
1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.
2. Remove and discard the torque converter.
3. Remove the transmission fluid pump assembly for inspection. Remove and discard the fluid filter.
Follow the transmission fluid pump assembly inspection procedure. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01 >
Overhaul > Transmission > Steps 126-133. Does the transmission fluid pump assembly pass inspection
criteria?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – replace the transmission fluid pump assembly. Proceed to Step 4.
