2017 F250 – 6.2L – 6R100 – Intermittent Tow Haul Indicator Light – Automatic Tow Haul Activation

2017 F250 vehicles equipped with a 6.2L engine and 6R100 transmission only, may experience intermittent tow/haul indicator lamp illuminating without the customer pressing the transmission control switch.

The 6R100 transmission is equipped with automatic tow/haul activation which commands the tow/haul feature to activate during certain driving conditions.

The automatic tow/haul activation is a normal operating characteristic and no repair attempt should be made.

To activate automatic tow/haul, when vehicle speed is over 40 MPH, the powertrain control module (PCM) continuously monitors brake pedal applications that exceed two second search by incrementing a counter.

When this counter reaches twenty of these two second events, tow/haul is activated and the tow/haul indicator lamp is illuminated.
