Description of Defect :
Description of the Defect : Hood scoops that were sold as accessory parts “Over-the-counter” (OTC) for 2021-2024MY Bronco Sport vehicles may detach from the vehicle.

Description of the Safety Risk : A hood scoop that detaches while driving can damage the windshield and/or create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.
Description of the Cause : Root cause remains under investigation, but contributing causes have been identified.
Warping may be present in the honeycomb grills of the hood scoop assembly which may cause the front of the hood scoop to not sit flush with the hood surface. Additionally, the hood surface contour makes the installation process more susceptible to mis-installation, and installation instructions may not be accurately followed by the installer, which can result in incomplete adhesion. Identification of Any Warning
that can Occur : The customer may visually detect gaps around a loose
hood scoop or detect an audible rattle and/or excessive wind noise from the

On January 30, 2024, an issue pertaining to Bronco Sport accessory hood scoops was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) for review.
In February 2024, the FLA team reviewed photos of 2 claims which show minimal evidence of adhesive residue. The adhesive is intended to be the primary attachment mechanism of the hood scoop to the vehicle. The FLA Quality team conducted a read-across for vehicles fitted with similar hood scoops. The instructions outline a similar process and attachment method, but a similar detachment trend is not present on those vehicle lines.
On February 26, 2024, The FLA team removed this accessory from all websites and catalog listings.
In March 2024, the FLA team conducted an assembly trial and identified a new hood scoop with warpage in the honeycomb grill area that does not meet specification.
As of March 5, 2024, Ford is aware of 24 reports of loose/detached hood scoops in North America. The first known report of a detached hood scoop was received on April 8, 2021.
As of April 2, 2024, parts have been purged from Ford Authorized Distributors (FADs) and dealers. Hood scoop accessories are not traceable to VIN and Ford does not have customer contact information for the final purchasers.
On April 05, 2024, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents, injuries, or Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) related to this condition. The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24E-032

Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Letters will be sent to the dealer principals of the dealerships that ordered
the suspect parts for which there is
no traceability. Dealerships will be required to contact customers that purchased the hood scoop accessory
and request that the customer return part for a full refund. Dealer to provide evidence that the returned part has
been scrapped/destroyed. There will be no charge for this service. Ford provided the general reimbursement plan for the cost of remedies paid for by vehicle
owners prior to notification of a safety recall in May 2023. The ending date for reimbursement
eligibility is estimated to be May 31, 2025.
Ford will forward a copy of the notification letters to dealers to the agency when available. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component :
