Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023 Maverick vehicles. A missing electrical circuit may cause the trailer taillights to not illuminate as intended when utilizing the vehicle trailer tow electrical connector. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, ” Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Remedy
Dealers will add an electrical circuit to the engine bay wiring harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 27, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 23C04.

REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL
On affected vehicles, a wiring circuit to the trailer tow connector is missing resulting in inoperative trailer taillamps. The affected vehicles will not conform to the requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, which requires trailers to be equipped with stop, tail, and turn signal lamps, along with other functions.
SERVICE ACTION
DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any new in-stock vehicles involved in this compliance recall. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided to dealers 2nd quarter 2023 when it is anticipated that parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to support this compliance recall.
IMPORTANT: Dealers should open a Repair Order (RO) only when a full dealer bulletin is published. Opening an RO against an Awareness or Advance Notice will result in warranty rejections against a recall.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of record will be notified via first-class mail after repair instructions and parts ordering information have been provided to dealers.
PLEASE NOTE:
Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $26,315 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery.

Chronology :
On February 14, 2023, an issue pertaining to 2023 model year Ford Maverick trailer tow taillamp function was brought to Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group for review.
On February 3rd, 2023, the Ford Hermosillo assembly plant was made aware of a warranty claim on a 2023MY Ford Maverick with a customer indicating that the trailer taillamps were not functioning when the trailer was attached to vehicle. Dealer inspection found a missing circuit in the engine bay electrical harness.
Further investigation by the assembly plant and engineering revealed that a revised engine bay wire harness released for the 2023 model year did not include a circuit for the class II trailer tow (7+4 connector). All 2023 model year vehicles with Class II trailer tow are affected.
A stop ship was issued on February 8th, 2023, by Ford Hermosillo assembly plant.
As of March 3, 2023, there are (4) known warranty reports related to this concern.
On March 3, 2023, Ford’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.
