Summary
Some 2020-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 10R140 transmission may exhibit a ticking or scraping noise coming from the bellhousing. The noise may or may not go away while in PARK and/or NEUTRAL. This may be due to the torque converter studs contacting the flexplate inspection cover and/or internal torque converter damper spring contact. To correct the condition, inspect and adjust the flexplate inspection cover (gas engine only) and/or replace the torque converter (gas or diesel engine).

This article supersedes TSB 20-2408 to update the vehicles affected and Part List.
Issue: Some 2020-2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 10R140 transmission may exhibit a ticking or scraping noise coming from the bellhousing. The noise may or may not go away while in PARK and/or NEUTRAL. This may be due to the torque converter studs contacting the flexplate inspection cover and/or internal torque converter damper spring contact. To correct the condition, inspect and adjust the flexplate inspection cover (gas engine only) and/or replace the torque converter (gas or diesel engine).
Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:
- 2020-2021 F-Super Duty
- 10R140 automatic transmission
- Ticking or scraping noise coming from the bellhousing
NOTE: Part quantity refers to the number of that service part number required, which may be different than the number of individual pieces. Service Procedure
1. Is the vehicle equipped with a 6.2L or 7.3L gas engine?
(1). Yes – remove and inspect the flexplate inspection cover for contact with the torque converter studs. If contact is found, adjust the cover so contact does not occur. Refer to Figure 1.
(2). No – proceed to Step 3.
2. Does the vehicle exhibit the condition after adjusting the flexplate inspection cover?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 3.
(2). No – repair is complete.
3. Does the noise go away while in PARK and/or NEUTRAL?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04 for normal diagnosis.
4. Replace the torque converter. Refer to WSM, Section 307-01.
