2006-2007 Fusion, Milan, and 2006 Zephyr vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine and built before 9/2/2006 may exhibit a transmission whine on light accelerator tip-in at speeds between 40-60 MPH (64-97 Km/h).
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Install mass Damper Kit on the transmission shift cable in the engine compartment of the vehicle near the bulk head by following these steps:
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
- Install two (2) halves of the mass damper around trans shift cable at the base of the bulk head grommet. (Figure 1)

- Secure mass damper with two (2) screws and torque to 53 in-lbs (6 N-m).
