Summary
Some 2017-2018 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with 6.2L gas engines built on or before 2-May-2018 may exhibit a crank/no start concern with or without DTCs P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308 and/or P0316. This concern may be due to spark plug fuel fouling during cold starts in temperatures below 50°F (10°C). The PCM software update improves cold weather fueling strategies. Note: E85 fuel usage can contribute to poor starts, drivability concerns or inability to start the engine. Refer to the Owner’s Manual for E85 fuel usage guidelines. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

Service Procedure
- Using the appropriate Ford scan tool or equivalent, retrieve DTCs. Does the vehicle exhibit a crank/no start concern with or without DTCs P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308 and/or P0316 stored in powertrain control module (PCM)?
(1). Yes – reprogram the PCM using the appropriate Ford scan tool with release 109.05 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnostics.
- Perform dechoke flooding procedure:
(1). Turn ignition key off for 30 seconds.
(2). Turn ignition key to the accessory position.
(3). With the transmission in Park and the parking brake engaged, fully press accelerator pedal to achieve wide open throttle (WOT) position and start the vehicle.
(4). Proceed to Step 3.
Note: If the engine fails to start, repeat this procedure a maximum of three (3) times. It is critical the ignition key is turned off for 30 seconds after each time the procedure is performed.
Note: The PCM enters dechoke flooding mode when the accelerator pedal is fully pressed during engine cranking.
This procedure will shut off fuel injectors and fueling during engine cranking to allow starting of a flooded engine.
- Does the engine start?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – refer to the PC/ED Manual for normal diagnostics.
(1). Yes – change the engine oil and filter. Repair is complete.
(2). No – repair is complete.
