Power Liftgate Opening Intermittently without Engagement of Key Fob or Liftgate Buttons with Shift Selector in Park – 2014 Lincoln MKT

2014 MKT

Some 2014 MKT vehicles may exhibit a concern with the power liftgate opening intermittently without engagement of the key fob or liftgate buttons with the shift selector lever in the park (P) position.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear bumper cover.
   1. Disconnect connector C4353.
2. Inspect connector C4353 for evidence of water intrusion and/or corrosion. Is evidence of water or corrosion present?
   1. No – proceed to Step 3.
   2. Yes – proceed to Step 4.
3. Cover connector C4353 terminal top with Motorcraft Electrical Grease. (Figure 1) Proceed to Step 5.

4. Replace connector C4353 using the jumper harness and the solder splicing method.
   1. Cover the terminal top with Motorcraft Electrical Grease. (Figure 1)
5. Replace tailgate switch assembly.
6. Reinstall liftgate trim panel.
7. Reinstall the rear bumper cover.
