FUEL GAUGE DROPS TO 3/4 FULL AFTER A SHORT DRIVE OF 15 KM (10 MILES) OR LESS FOLLOWING A FUEL FILL-UP |
2013-2014 Fusion and MKZ vehicles may exhibit a concern of the fuel gauge dropping from full to 3/4 after a fuel fill-up and short drive of 15 km (10 miles) or less.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Is the vehicle a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, 3.7L, or equipped with All-Wheel Drive (AWD)?
- No – proceed to Step 2.
- Yes – proceed to Step 7.
- Determine the engine type.
- 2.0L gasoline turbocharged direct injected (GTDI), 1.6L GTDI, or 1.5L GTDI equipped vehicles proceed to Step 3.
- 2.5L equipped vehicles proceed to Step 5.
- Determine the vehicle emissions level using one of the following methods.
- OASIS – Click the additional information link in the upper right corner of the OASIS results for the vehicle. The emissions level is displayed in the detailed vehicle specification chart, located in the top section of the pop-up window.
- 49 state/non-green state requirement vehicles proceed to Step 4.
- California/green state requirement vehicles proceed to Step 5.
- Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent Scan Tool, determine the emissions level from the vehicle specification screen.
- Federal emissions proceed to Step 4.
- 50 state emissions proceed to Step 5.
- OASIS – Click the additional information link in the upper right corner of the OASIS results for the vehicle. The emissions level is displayed in the detailed vehicle specification chart, located in the top section of the pop-up window.
- Determine the vehicle build date for 49 state, non-green state and federal emissions level calibration.
- If the vehicle was built on or before 5/14/2013 proceed to Step 6.
- If the vehicle was built on or after 5/15/2013 proceed to Step 7.
- Determine the vehicle build date for California, green state and 50 state emissions level calibration.
- If the vehicle was built on or before 5/16/2014 proceed to Step 6.
- If the vehicle was built on or after 5/17/2014 proceed to Step 7.
- Replace the fuel tank.
- Is the vehicle a 2013 Fusion equipped with MyFord Touch or a 2013 MKZ Hybrid?
- Yes – reprogram the instrument panel cluster (IPC) to the latest calibration using IDS or Ford
J2534 release 93.01 and higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com.
- No – this article does not apply. Refer to WSM for normal diagnosis.

Service Information & Reprogramming
Software necessary to program electronic modules to the latest calibration level, perform module initialization (PATS), and set Programmable Parameters on Ford, Lincoln
and Mercury
vehicles.
Ford Module Programming (FMP) is a software application that allows subscribers to program electronic modules on Ford, Lincoln
and Mercury
vehicles. It can be used for:
- Reprogramming emission-related (OBDII) modules on some vehicles manufactured in 1995 and all vehicles manufactured from 1996 to the present
- Reprogramming or reconfiguring non-emission-related modules on many vehicles (UBP and MS-CAN not supported)
In addition, module initialization (PATS) functions such as Keycode Erase/Reprogram and PCM Parameter Reset can be done using this application.
J2534 Device
using Ford Module Programming (FMP) can Reprogram and Configure most Modules.
