Summary
LA West Inc. (LA West) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Ford
Transit vehicles modified to be equipped with glass roof hatches. Temperature and vibration stresses may cause the tempered glass roof hatch to shatter.
Remedy
LA West will notify owners, and dealers will replace the hatch lids, free of charge. The recall began July 11, 2019. Owners may contact LA West customer service at 1-704-498-4940.

Subject: Safety Recall 19V-439 – Transpec Glass Hatches
Dear Customer:
This notice is being sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Specialty Manufacturing, Inc. (SMI) a supplier of L.A. West, Inc. has decided that certain Transpec Glass Hatches manufactured between August 1, 2018 and February 22, 2019 may contain a defect in the edge of the glass that can result of failure of the tempered glass. If the tempered glass roof hatch shatters, glass fragments may fall onto passengers, increasing the risk of injury. Accordingly, a recall to address this issue is being initiated effective 05/16/2019
Description of Defect
It has been determined that some Transpec Glass Hatches may contain edge defects (chips) in the glass panels that have resulted from the manufacturing process. Hot/cold stress and vibration/shock can create stress concentrations at these edge defects that may result in facture and failure of the tempered glass if edge damage is present.Owners will be notified by mail about the recall and will be instructed to call the dealer service
department toschedule an appointment to have the glass lid replaced. Remedy repair should take no longer than 30 minutes. There is no cost to the owners for this recall.
Identifying Suspect Parts
- Check the label on the bottom of the Transpec Glass Hatch p/n T28XX-XXX-XXX (circled below in blue) for dates between August 1, 2018 and February 22, 2019 (circled below in red). Units built within this date range are subject to the replacement campaign.
IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE
Remedy Program
Replacing the glass lid will resolve the defect. The replacement kit will include (1) replacement glass lid and detailed work instructions. Remedy repair should take no longer than 30 minutes.
