Charge Cord May Overheat Causing Fire
An overheated cord can increase the risk of a fire.
Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 120V Convenience charge cords that were supplied with and sold for use with 2013-2015 Ford C-Max Energi and Fusion Energi vehicles and 2012-2015 Ford Focus Electric vehicles. Cords with part numbers FM58-10B706-AA, FM58-10B706-AB, FM58-10B706-AC, FM58-10B706-AD, FM58-10B706-AE and FM58-10B706-AF were manufactured without thermistors, and during vehicle charging, increased resistance in the house’s outlet or wiring can cause the cord to overheat and melt.
Remedy
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current cord with a new 120V convenience cord with a thermistor, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 17, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 18S24.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
Using the factory equipped 120-volt convenience charge cord may cause burns, property damage, charge cord damage, and may increase the risk of fire if used improperly with any of the following:
- a loose, worn or damaged AC wall outlet
- an extension cord
- a two-prong adapter
- a surge protector
- a timer
- any other adapter
New! SERVICE ACTION
Ford Motor Company will replace the factory equipped 120-volt convenience charge cord with the latest version, which includes a thermistor at the AC wall outlet connector for over temperature shutoff. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided to dealers by the end of December 2018 when it is anticipated that parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to complete this recall on Focus Electric vehicles. A Dealer Bulletin Supplement will be provided to dealers in the first quarter 2019 when it is anticipated that parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to complete this recall for C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi vehicles.
IMPORTANT: Dealers should open a Repair Order (RO) only when a full dealer bulletin is published. Opening an RO against an Awareness or Advance Notice will result in warranty rejections against a recall.
New! CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of record will be notified of this safety recall via first-class mail the week of September 17, 2018.
Focus Electric owners will be notified again in December 2018, after repair instructions and parts ordering information have been provided to dealers.
C-MAX Energi and Fusion Energi owners will be notified again in the first quarter 2019, after repair instructions and parts ordering information have been provided to dealers.
PLEASE NOTE:
Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory prior to delivery.

- Flex Level 1 EV Charger - The EVDANCE Level 1 electric car charger is compatible with J1772 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles (North American Standard). *Tesla requires a SAE J1772 adapter.
- Convenient to Use - This charger has both NEMA 6-20 plug for 16A 240V charging (3.68kW, 10-12 mi/h) and a NEMA 6-20 to 5-15 plug adapter for 12A 120V charging (1.44kW, 2-5 mi/h). The included bag makes it easier to carry on the go. It also has a 25ft cable length, you can use it flexibly from anywhere in the garage or driveway.
- Check Your Outlet Type -This charger works with standard 120V NEMA 5-15/5-20 outlets (2-5 mph charging speed) and 240V NEMA 6-20 outlets (10-12 mph) .
