CLICKING OR RATCHETING TYPE NOISE FROM REAR OF VEHICLE – 2.7L ECOBOOSTAWD – BUILT ON 16-OCT-2016 AND THROUGH 18-NOV-2016

LINCOLN: 2017 Continental

 

ISSUE:

Some 2017 Continental vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine, all-wheel drive (AWD) and built on 16-Oct-206 and through 18-Nov-2016 may exhibit a clicking or ratcheting type of noise from the rear of the vehicle during acceleration.

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Does the customer state that the vehicle exhibits a clicking or ratcheting type of noise from the rear of the vehicle during acceleration?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
    1. No – this article does not apply. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04.
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to WSM, Section 100-04.
  1. Visually inspect the right side of the rear drive unit (RDU) front mounting bracket from the rear of the vehicle and looking forward. Are you able to read GD93 on the bracket? (Figure 1)

    1. Yes – this article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 100-04 for normal diagnostics.
    1. No – proceed to Step 4.
  1. Using a jack stand, support the front of the RDU.
  1. Remove the right side front RDU mounting bracket and install it on the left side. Remove the left side front RDU mounting bracket and install it on the right side.
    1. Tighten mounting bolts to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft)
  1. Remove the jack stand and lower the vehicle. The repair is complete.
