Wheel Center Caps May Fall Off – 2017 Ford F-250 F-350

2017 F-250 – F-350 Single Rear Wheel Center Caps May Fall Off Due to Improper Installation

Some center caps on 2017 F-250 – 350 Single rear wheel vehicles may not be correctly installed and could fall off.

Proper Installation Procedure:

1. Align ornament to the lug nuts.

2. Hold ornament so that all of the retention clips are sitting on the flange of the lug nuts.

3. Using a rubber mallet tap the ornament in a star pattern without damaging the ornament. There should be an even gap, all around, between the ornament and the wheel.

4. Be sure that all retention clips are fully seated and fully engaged over all lug nuts. The recessed portion of the ornament should sit flush with all the lug nut flanges.

  2. Same thing, bought 2017 F 350. Lost two rear caps, talk to two dealerships and they said there was not any issues. I glad I cam across this site. Not only it could be a danger to pedestrians or bikes.

  3. I’ve lost 3 on my 2017 F-250 I purchased in December. Dealer has been great to replace and now I’m using a small dab of construction adhesive to keep them on.
    So far so good

  4. Nothing new!! My 2008 F250 SD has this issue also. The problem with my truck is the use of Ford (and other auto makers) of using a cheap plastic chrome skin over the steel or alum. wheels instead of doing a direct chrome plating of the product. Any separation of this chrome skin from the wheel underneath (no matter how slight or even noticeable) can put just enough pressure on the center cap to cause it to dislodge when going over even railroad tracks. This is IMO a design flaw that Ford should address. This has been an issue since at least 2008. 10+ years. It is time that Ford owns up to this problem and offers a solution to the owners of their SD pickups. We need a new center cap design that addresses this issue, and Ford needs to do right by their customers and offer it at a reasonable price.

  5. I have a 2016 F250 super duty that we’ve owned for 10 months, I have replaced the center hubs on various wheels I’m on my third one no one believed me that they were flying off, not even the local Ford store I’ve had to order new center caops through, but they are. 80 bucks a piece. Ford needs to make this problem go away. Not happy

  7. I’ve had a 2017 F-250 for five months now and I’ve lost a total of 4 center caps since I bought it. Twice on one wheel. It’s ridiculous……….and even more ridiculous that they cost $80 a piece!

  8. I have a brand new 2017 F-350, less than 2 months old, and I have lost one rear and one front hubcap. That should not occur with a brand new, less than 2 month old, Super Duty truck! I bought the rear one and now I am waiting on my Ford dealership to determine if this is an installation or design flaw issue.
