ISSUE:
Some 2016 Focus SE vehicles may exhibit a thumping, tapping and/or buzz noise from the footwell area at speeds above 64 Km/h (40 MPH) and built on or before 4/11/2016. The noise may be caused by the forward edge of the underbody acoustic shield contacting the body.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Does the customer state there is a thumping, tapping and/or buzz noise from the footwell area above 64 Km/h (40 MPH)?
- Yes – proceed to Step 2.
- No – refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04.
- Place the vehicle on the hoist. Refer to WSM Section 100-02.
- Remove and discard the 2 push pins securing the underbody shields for both sides. (Figure 1)

- Gently pull down the front of the shield to clean the body and sub-frame using Motorcraft Metal Brake Parts Cleaner or equivalent. (Figure 2)

- Install PVC tape from the Rotunda Squeak and Rattle kit or equivalent.

- Install 4 new push pins (2 each side) to secure the underbody shields.
- Remove the vehicle from the hoist. Refer to WSM Section 100-02.
