Summary
1.6L GTDI – Lack of power with MIL Illuminated – DTCS P0234, P0245, P0246 And/Or P0299. Some 2013-2016 Escape 2014-2016 Fiesta ST, and 2013-2014 Fusion vehicles equipped with a 1.6L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine may exhibit a lack of power concern with malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0234, P0245, P0246 and/or P0299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) MEMORY.

ISSUE:
Some 2013-2016 Escape, 2014-2016 Fiesta ST, and 2013-2014 Fusion vehicles equipped with a 1.6L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine may exhibit a lack of power concern with malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) illuminated and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0234, P0245, P0246 and/or P0299 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) memory.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) service tool or equivalent scan tool, to the data link connector (DLC). Are DTCs P0234, P0245, P0246 and/or P0299 present in the PCM memory?
- Yes – proceed to Step 2.
- No – this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.
- Inspect the charge air cooler tubes and vacuum lines for damage and proper connection. Was any damage or connection issues identified?
- Yes – this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics.
- No – proceed to Step 3.
- Remove the engine front undershield. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-02.
- Replace the turbocharger wastegate regulating valve solenoid. (Figure 1)

- Disconnect the solenoid hoses and connectors from the turbocharger assembly.
- Install the solenoid assembly and reattach the solenoid hoses to the turbocharger.
- Make sure the solenoid hoses are installed completely and the clamps are centered on the wastegate solenoid hose barbs.
- Reconnect the solenoid connectors.
- Reinstall the engine front undershield. Refer to WSM, Section 501-02.
