Flexplate Locator Dowel Pin Must Be Installed When Replacing Shortblock Or Crankshaft – 2015-2018 Ford Transit

SSM 46959 – 2015-2018 Transit – 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi – Flexplate Locator Dowel Pin Must Be Installed When Replacing Shortblock Or Crankshaft To Prevent No Start Condition

Some 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi service short block assemblies and crankshafts may not have the flexplate dowel pin (W706939-S300) pre-installed in the rear crankshaft flange.

 

The dowel is required to properly align the flexplate in order to provide an accurate crankshaft position sensor (CKP) signal.

There are two holes the dowel could fit in, 180 degrees apart on the flange.

The dowel should be installed in the hole that is reamed slightly larger resulting in a small step or ridge very close to the bottom of the hole.

With the crankshaft timing tool 303-1587 installed, the flexplate dowel hole is located at the 8:30 position.

Installing an engine that is missing this dowel may result in a crank no start condition and/or DTC P0341.
