Front Center Console Becomes Hot to Touch – 2014-2015 Transit Connect

ISSUE:

Some 2014-2015 Transit Connect vans not equipped with 2nd row seat(s) and built on or before 1/15/2015 may exhibit a concern where the front center console becomes hot to the touch when the heat is directed to the floor. This may be due to incorrect parts directing hot air to the inside of the front center console.

 

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

  1. Is the front center console hot to the touch with the heater on?
    1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
    2. No – this article does not apply.
  2. Remove the floor front console. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-12.
  3. Remove the selector lever bezel and disconnect the electrical connector. Refer to WSM, Section 307-05. (Figure 1)

  1. Remove the screws and push pins, release the clips and remove the trim panel. (Figures 2 and 3)

  1. Remove the gearshift housing support bracket push pins and bolts. (Figure 4)

  1. Remove the u-shaped duct and install a blocker. (Figure 5)

  1. Reinstall the gearshift housing support bracket and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). (Figure 4)
  2. Reverse the removal procedure to install the gear shift housing covers and selector lever bezel.
