Headliner Sag and/or Appears to be Cut Short – 2014-2015 Ford Fusion

2014-2015 Fusion

ISSUE:

Some 2014-2015 Fusion vehicles built at the Flat Rock assembly plant and built on or before 9/22/2014 may exhibit a condition such as a headliner sag at one or more door openings.

The headliner appears to be cut short, does not fit properly or other condition with the headliner for which there is no published repair.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Does the first position of the vehicle identification number (VIN) start with a number 1? Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100–01.
   1. Yes – proceed to Step 2.
   2. No – the vehicle was not built at Flat Rock assembly plant, refer to WSM, Section 501-05 for normal diagnosis.
2. Remove the headliner, refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
3. Without using a cutting tool, hand tear and remove the striped or bar coded piece of tape identified on both the driver and passenger side curtain air bag in the C pillar area. (Figure 1)

   1. When removing the tape it is expected and acceptable for some of the backing or back side of the tape to remain on the curtain air bag. Do not use any chemicals or tools and attempt to remove the backing that remains.
4. Install a new headliner along with updated upper A, B and C pillars which are included in the trim panel kit. Refer to WSM, Section 501-05.
   1. The original D-pillar trim panel can be reinstalled with a new 2-stage retention clip on each pillar.
5. For 2014 Fusion vehicles install the overhead console attachment kit to the overhead console prior to installing the original overhead console in the new headliner.
