Summary
Some 2015-2022 F-150, 2017-2022 F-Super Duty and 2018-2022 Expedition/Navigator vehicles may exhibit poor air conditioning (A/C) performance, loss of airflow and/or engine cooling fans running continuously from high A/C pressures. This concern may be from the evaporator freezing up due to the evaporator temperature sensor being biased. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to replace the evaporator temperature sensor.
This bulletin supersedes 21-2404.

Quantity refers to the amount of the service part number required to repair the vehicle.
Unit of Issue refers to the number of individual pieces included in a service part number package.
Piece Quantity refers to the total number of individual pieces required to repair the vehicle.
As Needed indicates the amount of the part may vary and/or is not a whole number. Parts can be billed out as nonwhole numbers, including less than 1.
Service Procedure
1. Run the A/C on maximum/recirculation and blower speed on high for at least 10 minutes with the engine idling, then drive the vehicle.
2. Using the datalogger on the appropriate Ford
diagnostic scan tool, pull up the EVAP_TEMP PID in the front controls interface module (FCIM) to read the evaporator temperature and use a thermometer to measure the vent outlet temperature. Compare the temperature reading of the EVAP_TEMP PID to the thermometer’s vent outlet temperature reading during A/C use.
3. Is the temperature reading shown on the vent outlet thermometer colder than the temperature reading of the EVAP_TEMP PID?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – if Step 4 directed to restart this article, the repair is complete. For all others, this article does not apply. Refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics.
4. Recover the refrigerant and review recovered refrigerant amount. Was the correct amount recovered within +/- 1 oz. (0.03 kg.)?
(1). Yes – replace the evaporator assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 412-00. The evaporator temperature sensor is part of the evaporator assembly.
(2). No – refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics. Once the root cause of the incorrect charge has been corrected, restart this article from Step 1 to confirm the customer concern is corrected.

- PERFORMANCE BOOSTER CHARGE KIT - ZeroR is a performance booster for use with R1234YF AC systems. You can use as many cans in your system as you wish, while being sure not to overfill the system with the included can tap with gauge.
- KIT CONTENTS - The can tap is 24 in length with a gauge metered for R1234YF systems. Standard R1234YF can taps will not work on ZeroR branded R1234YF cans, because our cans have a unique thread. 3 cans of ZeroR Permafrost in 4oz cans.
- NOT A Full Refrigerant - This product is a support fluid performance booster. It is a combination of two ZeroR products in one. The first part removes moisture (moisture can cause damage and reduced performance in the system), and the second part reduces friction (friction can reduce refrigerant flow and cause compressor damage)
- 24 in Charging Hose with Can Tap & Gauge - New longer 24 inch connection hose accomodates those harder to reach low side ports that were previously difficult to reach with a shorter 12 inch hose.
- 10 MINUTE INSTALL - Easy instructions are included and will take as little as 10 minutes to complete.
- READY-TO-USE RECHARGE KIT: This all-in-one AC refrigerant recharge kit includes everything you need: 1 can of R1234YF refrigerant and a 24" can tap with gauge. Whether you’re a DIYer or a professional, this kit ensures your AC system stays cool and smooth
- ACCESS HARD-TO-REACH PORTS: The 24-inch heavy-duty brass can tap with a gauge, making refilling your AC system easier. The R1234yf refrigerant kit’s extended hose reaches tight, hard-to-access low-side ports that shorter hoses can't, ensuring a hassle-free process
- ENSURE PEAK AC EFFICIENCY: This kit includes 1 AC recharge can of authentic HFO-R1234YF refrigerant, sourced from authorized suppliers in the USA. Designed for use in R1234YF systems, this refrigerant ensures your vehicle's AC operates at peak efficiency
- ERROR-FREE TOOL CONNECTIONS: The R1234yf refrigerant can tap features a reverse-thread design, ensuring only compatible tools connect to the R1234YF can. This prevents errors, making it safe to connect the refrigerant and perform without risk of incompatibility
- PRECISE REFRIGERANT EVERY TIME: Each refrigerant R-1234yf can contains 8oz of refrigerant, measured by weight for accuracy. Simply use the right amount every time. Most systems require 2-3 cans, and this kit provides everything for a quick, effective recharge
- Opteon YF (R-1234yf) automotive refrigerant 12 ounce can
- Comes with a reusable recharge hose attached
- Easy to use and cools as effectively as R-134a
- ❄️ MAXIMIZE A/C COOLING PERFORMANCE Dual-action formula combines moisture removal and performance enhancement to deliver colder air duct temperatures and improved overall system efficiency.
- 💧 ELIMINATES DAMAGING MOISTURE Removes moisture inside the A/C system that can cause corrosion, freeze-ups, and reduced cooling performance—helping protect critical components.
- ⚙️ REDUCES FRICTION & EXTENDS SYSTEM LIFE Lubricating properties help reduce internal friction, allowing smoother operation and potentially extending the lifespan of your A/C system.
- 🚗 COMPATIBLE WITH MOST AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS Works with all automotive refrigerants except ammonia and CO₂ systems. Installs easily through standard refrigerant charging methods.
- 🛠️ EASY TO USE – PROFESSIONAL RESULTS Gas-propelled formula installs just like refrigerant. Ideal for boosting underperforming A/C systems (cannot be added to a fully charged system).
