December 16, 2021 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 21V982000
A misaligned radar module may prevent the vehicle from maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles when adaptive cruise control is active. In addition, the automatic emergency braking (AEB) system may react slowly, or not react at all, during a pre-collision assist braking event. Any of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.

NEW VEHICLE DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD – Safety Recall 21S52
Certain 2021 Model Year Ranger and Bronco Vehicles Cruise Control Module Alignment
AFFECTED VEHICLES
| Vehicle | Model Year | Assembly Plant | Build Dates |
| Ranger | 2021 | Michigan Assembly | June 5, 2021 through July 13, 2021 |
| Bronco | February 26, 2021 through July 13, 2021 |
Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the cruise control module (CCM) radar may have been misaligned during assembly. A misaligned CCM radar can cause the vehicle to have a closer-than-expected following distance when using the Adaptive Cruise Control feature, and the Automatic Emergency Braking system may react late resulting in sudden loss of speed during an automatic Pre-Collision Assist braking event. Additionally, the forward collision warning system may react late or not at all. The Pre-Collision Assist system’s effectiveness to detect a potential frontal collision may be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash.
SERVICE ACTION
Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to perform the vertical alignment procedure on the CCM. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
Note: Parts are not available to service Ranger models at this time. This bulletin is expected to be supplemented by the end of 2nd quarter 2022 with updated information when parts become available.
OWNER NOTIFICATION AND MAILING SCHEDULE
Parts to repair this condition are currently not available to service affected Ranger models. Therefore, to ensure an ample supply of parts is available, owners of affected vehicles will be notified in two separate mailings. Mailing will begin by the week of January 17, 2022, for Bronco models. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
Owners of Ranger models will receive an Owner Notification Mailing by the week of February 21, 2022.
PLEASE NOTE:
Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
SOLD VEHICLES
- Ford
has not issued instructions to stop selling/delivering or driving used vehicles under this safety recall. On July 15, 2021, an issue pertaining to Ford
Ranger and Bronco vehicles with misaligned cruise control radar modules was brought to Ford
’s Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) for review. The assembly plant discovered that three of the four stations that perform cruise control module radar calibration were using an incorrect calibration program.
An investigation was conducted to understand the effect of potential incorrect radar calibration, which could vary depending on the vehicle configuration and ride height. Analysis found that radars aligned with the incorrect programming could be up to 2.6 degrees lower than design intent, which is outside of Ford
’s specification.
Numerous reviews were conducted with Product Engineering to understand the potential effect on vehicle Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Pre-Collision Assist (PCA) features as part of the Advanced Automatic Emergency Braking system. These analyses included the potential for false-positive activations, delayed activations, vehicle deceleration rates and speed ranges. The ACC and PCA features use information from the vehicle’s forward-looking radar and camera sensors to detect and track objects in the host vehicle path. When the radar and camera are not aligned according to specification, there is a possibility the information provided by the radar and camera is inaccurate.
Based on results of these reviews it was determined that complete assessment of the potential effect on vehicle function would require physical vehicle testing under a wide variety of vehicle operating conditions for this concern, which would take an extensive period of time. The parameters of Ford
’s agreement to the March 2016 “Commitments to Advancing Automatic Emergency Braking Technology” were reviewed.
On December 9, 2021, Ford
’s Field Review Committee reviewed the concern and approved a field action.
A review of field data found no reports pertaining to this subject.
Ford
is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

February 2022 Ford
Motor Company Ford
Customer Service Division P. O. Box 1904 Dearborn, Michigan 48121 1904 * * * IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL * * * Safety Recall Notice 21S52 / NHTSA Recall 21V082 2021 Ranger Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN): This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Ford
Motor Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in your vehicle, with the VIN shown above. We apologize for this situation and want to assure you that, with your assistance, we will correct this condition. Our commitment, together with your dealer, is to provide you with the highest level of service and support. What is the issue? On your vehicle, it may be possible that the Cruise Control Module (CCM) was misaligned during assembly. What is the risk? A misaligned CCM radar can cause the vehicle to have a closer-thanexpected following distance when using the Adaptive Cruise Control feature, or the Automatic Emergency Braking system may react late resulting in sudden loss of speed during an automatic Pre-Collision Assist braking event. Additionally, the Forward Collision Warning system may react late or not at all. The Pre-Collision Assist system’s effectiveness to detect a potential frontal collision may be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash. What will Ford
and your dealer do? Ford
Motor Company has authorized your dealer to align the CCM free of charge (parts and labor). How long will it take? The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period of time. What should you do? Please call your dealer without delay and request a service date for Recall 21S52. Provide the dealer with your VIN, which is printed near your name at the beginning of this letter. Ford
has not issued instructions to stop driving your vehicle under this safety recall. You should contact your dealer for an appointment to have your vehicle remedied as soon as practicable. You can continue to safely drive your vehicle. If you do not already have a servicing dealer, you can access ford
.com/support for dealer addresses, maps, and driving instructions. Ford
Motor Company wants you to have this safety recall completed on your vehicle. The vehicle owner is responsible for making arrangements to have the work completed. Please note: Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days. NOTE: You can receive information about Recalls and Customer Satisfaction Programs through our FordPass App. The app can be downloaded through the App Store or Google Play. In addition, there are other features such as reserving parking in certain locations and controlling certain functions on your vehicle (lock or unlock doors, remote start) if it is equipped to allow control. © Copyright 2022 Ford

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL In some of the affected vehicles, the cruise control module (CCM) radar may have been misaligned during assembly. SERVICE ACTION Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to perform the vertical alignment procedure on the CCM. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. Note: Parts are not available to service Ranger models at this time. This bulletin is expected to be supplemented by the end of 2nd quarter 2022 with updated information when parts become available. OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE Parts to repair this condition are currently not available to service affected Ranger models. PLEASE NOTE: Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
