ISSUE:
Some 2011-2013 F-150 vehicles built on or before 6/15/2013 and equipped with a 3.5L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI) engine may exhibit various engine misfire symptoms accompanied by diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305 and/or P0306 stored in the powertrain control module (PCM).
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Does normal diagnosis in the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual lead to spark plug inspection?
- Yes – proceed to step 2.
- No – this article does not apply. Continue with normal diagnosis.
- Remove the spark plug from the affected cylinder. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-07.
- Inspect the spark plug for signs of carbon tracking. Is carbon tracking evident? (Figures 1 and 2)
- Yes – replace all six spark plugs and spark plug coil boots. Refer to WSM, Section 303-07.
- No – this article does not apply. Refer to PC/ED manual for normal diagnosis.
