Summary

FordeBay logo Motor Company (FordeBay logo) is recalling certain 2021 F-150 and 2020-2021 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty vehicles. During manufacturing, the windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, allowing it to detach in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 212, “Windshield Mounting.”

Remedy

FordeBay logo will notify owners, and dealers will remove and reinstall the windshield, free of charge. The recall began April 16, 2021. Owners may contact FordeBay logo customer service at 1-866-436-7332. FordeBay logo’s number for this recall is 21C06.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL

All of the affected vehicles may not conform to the requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 212 Windshield Mounting, some vehicles may have a bonding concern between the clearcoat and windshield urethane or the primer coat and the basecoat. This bonding concern could allow the windshield to lose adhesion to the vehicle body in the event of an accident, which may increase the risk of injury to an occupant.

SERVICE ACTION

Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to remove the windshield and improve the windshield urethane to body adhesion using the attached procedure. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

OWNER NOTIFICATION AND MAILING SCHEDULE

Owner letters were mailed the week of April 19, 2021. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

SOLD VEHICLES

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE: These instructions are not intended to be followed from beginning to end. There are several locations where procedures must be completed by other groups before the procedure in these instructions can be resumed.

The instructions should be followed in this order.

1. Glass Company – Remove windshield – Steps 1-27 as required.

2. Body Shop – Improve Flange adhesion – Steps 1-10 as required.

3. Glass Company – Install windshield – Steps 28-36

4. Body Shop – Calibrate Image Processing Module A – Step 11

BODY SHOP – PART ONE

1. Cover/protect the body and interior of the vehicle.

2. Is the vehicle Lead Foot Gray?

Yes – Proceed to Step 3.

No – Proceed to Steps 4-6.

3. Using a Scotch-Brite 3M Roloc disk, remove all the urethane, clear coat, base coat, and paint primer only where the urethane will be applied around the entire windshield body flange perimeter. The goal is to expose the e-coat without going down to bare metal. See Figure 1.

4. Using a scraper, cut the urethane vertically across the urethane bead down to the painted surface. Once reaching the painted surface, pry one side of the bead up with the scraper. Using fingers, work to peel the urethane off the windshield body flange.

5. In areas where the urethane peeled up cleanly, use 400-600 grit sandpaper or a fine Scotch-Brite pad to manually scuff clear coat lightly until it displays a white haze being sure to only abrade the flange. See Figure 2.

6. In areas where the urethane did not peel up cleanly, use a Scotch-Brite 3M Roloc disk to remove all remaining urethane from flange while attempting to minimize abrasion to the painted surface. See Figure 3.

7. Remove the protective cover from the vehicle and clean off the entire windshield flange from all dirt and debris.

8. Using Isopropyl Alcohol and a lint-free cloth, clean off the flange surface.

9. Apply tape to the edges of the windshield flange to protect the surface of the vehicle. See Figure 4.

10. Apply one coat of any FordeBay logo approved epoxy based repair primer to any spots where the roloc disk was used to grind off the urethane. Allow time for the primer to dry per the manufacturer’s instructions. See Figure 5.

BODY SHOP – PART TWO

NOTE: Part Two may only be performed once the Glass Company repair procedures have been completed.

11. After the windshield has been properly installed and the urethane has dried per the manufacturer’s instructions, carry out the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) Camera alignment using a scan tool.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY ISSUES SAFETY COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY RECALLS IN NORTH AMERICA

FEB 22, 2021 | DEARBORN, MICH.

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 22, 2021 – FordeBay logo Motor Company is issuing safety compliance and safety recalls in North America.

Safety compliance recall for select 2020-21 FordeBay logo F-Series vehicles for windshield adhesion
Affected vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards because the front windshields are inadequately bonded to the vehicle body structure. In the event of a crash, the windshield may not adequately stay in place, which may increase the risk of occupant injury.

This action affects 79,017 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, 6,986 in Canada and 1,347 in Mexico, including:

  • 2021 FordeBay logo F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Truck Plant from Oct. 27, 2020, to Feb. 3, 2021
  • 2020-21 FordeBay logo Super Duty vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant from Oct. 13, 2020, to Jan. 23, 2021

FordeBay logo is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Owner notifications will begin the week of April 6. Dealers will remove and reinstall the windshield using standard service procedures. The FordeBay logo reference number for this recall is 21C06.

Safety recall for select 2020 FordeBay logo F-Series Super Duty vehicles with 6.7-liter engines for labels with incorrect payload information

Affected vehicles display overstated payload capacity values on the tire and loading information label, overstated accessory reserve capacity values on the safety certification label, and overstated weight values on the truck camper loading documentation. If the vehicles are loaded to the payload stated on the tire and loading information label, they may exceed the gross vehicle weight rating or  gross axle weight rating. This may result in tire loading beyond rated capacity, suspension overload and increased stopping distance, which could increase the risk of a crash.

This action affects 9,979 2020 FordeBay logo F-Series Super Duty vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories and 1,750 in Canada. They were built at Kentucky Truck Plant from May 13, 2019 to, Sept. 19, 2020.

FordeBay logo is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Owner notifications will begin the week of March 22. Dealers will replace the tire and loading information label, safety certification label and, if needed, the truck camper loading document. The FordeBay logo reference number for this recall is 21S06.
