Summary

FordeBay logo Motor Company (FordeBay logo) is recalling certain 2019-2020 F-150 vehicles. The fastener securing the Power Distribution Box (PDB) 12V cable and Battery Monitoring System (BMS) eyelets to the positive battery terminal may loosen and affect the vehicle’s systems such as instrument panel displays and braking or steering assist. The engine could also stall.

 

Remedy

FordeBay logo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the positive battery cable/BMS/PDB joint for excess sealant adhesive and remove any excessive adhesive, reassemble the joint, and retorque the fastener, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November 25, 2019. Owners may contact FordeBay logo customer service at 1-866-436-7332. FordeBay logo’s number for this recall is 19S40.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL

In some of the affected vehicles, the fastener that connects the Power Distribution Box (PDB) cable and the Battery Monitoring Sensor (BMS) cable to the positive battery terminal may not be secure due to some wiring eyelet adhesive on the BMS terminal joint contact surface area. Adhesive in the joint contact area between the BMS eyelet and the PDB eyelet can interfere with proper joint contact and fastener tightness, causing a soft joint connection. A soft joint connection could cause intermittent or inoperative vehicle systems affecting instrument panel displays, braking or steering control, and engine stalling. An improperly assembled battery cable connection may create an electrical resistive short, increasing the potential for smoke, melting, or risk of fire.

 

SERVICE ACTION

Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to inspect the positive battery terminal fastener joint for wiring eyelet adhesive material. If present, dealers will remove any adhesive material from the joint, reassemble the joint, and torque the fastener to specification. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

 

OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE

Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of November 25, 2019. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

PLEASE NOTE:

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.

CERTAIN 2019-2020 MODEL YEAR F-150 VEHICLES – BATTERY MONITORING SENSOR EYELET ADHESIVE OBSTRUCTION

 

OVERVIEW

In some of the affected vehicles, the fastener that connects the Power Distribution Box (PDB) cable and the Battery Monitoring Sensor (BMS) cable to the positive battery terminal may not be secure due to some wiring eyelet adhesive on the BMS terminal joint contact surface area.  Adhesive in the joint contact area between the BMS eyelet and the PDB eyelet can interfere with proper joint contact and fastener tightness, causing a soft joint connection.  A soft joint connection could cause intermittent or inoperative vehicle systems affecting instrument panel displays, braking or steering control, and engine stalling.  An improperly assembled battery cable connection may create an electrical resistive short, increasing the potential for smoke, melting, or risk of fire.  Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to inspect the positive battery terminal fastener joint for wiring eyelet adhesive material.  If present, dealers will remove any adhesive material from the joint, reassemble the joint, and torque the fastener to specification.  This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

 

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and position aside.  Please follow the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures in Section 414-01.

2. Position the positive battery terminal cover aside and remove the positive battery terminal fastener.  See Figure 1.

  • Torque to 177 lb.in (20 Nm).

NOTE:  Note the position and orientation of the Power Distribution Box (PDB) cable and the Battery Monitoring Sensor (BMS) cable on the positive battery terminal stud for reassembly.

3. Remove the PDB cable and the BMS cable from the positive battery terminal stud.

4. Thoroughly inspect the positive battery terminal fastener joint (PDB cable eyelet, BMS cable eyelet and positive battery terminal with stud) for excessive heat shrink tubing adhesive.  Inspect the highlighted areas including both the top and bottom surfaces of the BMS and PDB cable eyelets.  See Figure 2.

– Is there any heat shrink tubing adhesive present in the joint?

Yes – Proceed to step 5.

No – Proceed to step 6.

5. Remove any heat shrink tubing adhesive from the positive battery terminal joint using a suitable hand held razor blade tool.

6. Reassemble the vehicle by reversing the removal steps. Re-torque the positive battery terminal         fastener to specification.

Safety recall for select 2019-20 FordeBay logo F-150 vehicles for improperly secured positive battery-terminal fastener

FordeBay logo Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for select 2019-20 FordeBay logo F-150 vehicles for a positive battery-terminal fastener that may not be secured due to wiring eyelet adhesive on the surface area of the terminal joint contact for the battery-monitoring sensor. An attachment that is not secure may result in intermittent or inoperative vehicle systems, affecting instrument panel displays, braking or steering assist, or causing the engine to stall. This condition could also create a resistive short, increasing the potential for smoke, melting or risk of fire.

FordeBay logo is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

This action affects 135,725 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, 30,073 in Canada, and 2,257 in Mexico.

Affected vehicles were built at Dearborn Truck Plant from July 15 to Oct. 1, 2019, and at Kansas City Assembly Plant from June 24 to Oct. 1, 2019.

Dealers will inspect the positive battery cable joint for excess sealant adhesive. If present, dealers will remove excess adhesive, reassemble the joint and torque the fastener to specification. The FordeBay logo reference number for this recall is 19S40.

FordeBay logo Motor Company is issuing a safety recall for select 2016-17 LincolneBay logo MKX vehicles with 3.7-liter engines. In affected vehicles, the battery cable harness may have substandard clearance, which could allow the harness to contact the transmission shifter cable bracket. Contact between the battery cable harness and the transmission shifter cable bracket could wear through the insulation of the cable, resulting in the cable shorting to ground, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring, as well as fire.

FordeBay logo is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition. FordeBay logo is aware of three vehicle fires potentially related to this issue.

This action affects 54,411 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories and 5,253 in Canada.

Affected vehicles were built at Oakville Assembly Plant from Nov. 12, 2014, to Sept. 11, 2017.

Dealers will remove the four battery harness clips at the battery tray and one elbow guide, then install a wire channel shield and protective sleeve to the battery cable harness. The FordeBay logo reference number for this recall is 19S41.

 

Safety compliance recall for select 2018-19 FordeBay logo F-Series Super Duty vehicles with LED headlamps

FordeBay logo Motor Company is issuing a safety compliance recall for select 2018-19 FordeBay logo F-Series Super Duty vehicles with LED headlamps. Affected vehicles are equipped with high-series daytime running lamps controlled by an incorrectly configured body control module. When the daytime running lamps are illuminated and the master lighting switch is moved to the low-beam position, the daytime running lamps do not revert to parking lamp intensity as required by federal motor vehicle safety standards.

FordeBay logo is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.

This action affects 86,296 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories and 14,079 in Canada.

Affected vehicles were built at Kentucky Truck Plant:

  • 2018 FordeBay logo F-Series Super Duty vehicles built from May 1, 2017, to July 13, 2018
  • 2019 FordeBay logo F-Series Super Duty vehicles built from March 5, 2018, to Oct. 8, 2019

Dealers will update the body control module. The FordeBay logo reference number for this recall is 19C10.
