Service Procedure
1. Using the appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool or equivalent, retrieve DTCs. Are DTCs P0390 and/or P0394 the only DTCs stored in the PCM?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 2.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnostics.
2. Replace the bank 2 exhaust variable camshaft timing (VCT) oil control solenoid. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-14.
