Summary
Some 2016-2017 Explorer/Police Interceptor Utility vehicles equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine built on or before 30-Sep-2016 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0325, P0327, P0330 and/or P0332. This may be caused by a wire chafe condition near the knock sensor connector C109. Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

Service Procedure
1. Check the vehicle build date. Was the vehicle built on or before 30-Sep-2016?
(1). Yes – Proceed to Step 2.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnostics.
2. Using the appropriate Ford
scan tool or equivalent, retrieve DTCs. Are P0325, P0327, P0330 and/or P0332 the only DTCs stored in the powertrain control module (PCM)?
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 3.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the PC/ED Manual for normal diagnostics.
3. Perform a visual inspection of the knock sensor wiring near connector C109. Refer to Wiring Diagram Cell 25. Is a wire chafe concern present? (Figure 1)
(1). Yes – proceed to Step 4.
(2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the PC/ED Manual for normal diagnostics.

4. Remove the air cleaner cover and air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-12.
5. Loosen the clamp on the turbocharger intake pipe and position aside. (Figure 2)

6. Drain the cooling system. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03.
7. Remove the bolts and position the coolant outlet aside. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03.
8. Disconnect knock sensor C109. Refer to WSM, Section 303-14.
9. Repair any damaged wiring. Refer to Cell 5 in the Wiring Diagram.
10. Install a 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) piece of convoluted tubing over the harness and secure it with electrical tape. Connect knock sensor C109. (Figure 3)

11. Position the coolant outlet and tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb. in.). Refer to WSM, Section 303-03.
12. Connect the turbocharger intake pipe and tighten the clamp to 5 Nm (44 lb. in).
13. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe and air cleaner cover. Refer to WSM, Section 303-12.
14. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03.
