Summary

FordeBay logo Motor Company (FordeBay logo) is recalling certain 2019 Fusion Energi Hybrid models. The affected vehicles may not adequately protect against direct and indirect contact of high voltage sources during normal operation. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 305, “Electric-Powered Vehicles: Electrolyte spillage and electrical shock protection.”

 

Remedy

FordeBay logo will notify owners, and dealers will install a Bus Electrical Center (BEC) cover over the high voltage fuses, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2019. Owners may contact FordeBay logo customer service at 1-866-436-7332. FordeBay logo’s number for this recall is 19C05.

REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL

The affected vehicles fail to conform to the new requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 305 for protection against contact of high voltage sources.  Potential contact with high voltage sources increases the risk of injury.

 

SERVICE ACTION

Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to install a protective cover over the Bus Electrical Center (BEC) fuses inside the high voltage battery compartment. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

 

OWNER NOTIFICATION AND MAILING SCHEDULE

Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of April 1, 2019. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

PLEASE NOTE:

Federal law requires dealers to complete this recall service before a new vehicle is delivered to the buyer or lessee. Violation of this requirement by a dealer could result in a civil penalty of up to $21,000 per vehicle. Correct all vehicles in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.

NOTE: Your FSA VIN Lists may contain owner names and addresses obtained from motor vehicle registration records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any purpose other than in connection with this recall is a violation of law in several states, provinces, and countries. Accordingly, you must limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this recall.

 

SOLD VEHICLES

  • FordeBay logo has not issued instructions to stop selling/delivering or driving used vehicles under this compliance recall. Owners should contact their dealer for an appointment to have their vehicles remedied as soon as practicable. Owners can continue to safely drive their vehicles.
  • Immediately contact any of your affected customers whose vehicles are not on your VIN list but are identified in OASIS. Give the customer a copy of the Owner Notification Letter (when available) and schedule a service date.
  • Correct other affected vehicles identified in OASIS which are brought to your dealership.
  • Dealers are to prioritize repairs of customer vehicles over repairs of new and used vehicle inventory.

 

STOCK VEHICLES

  • Correct all affected units in your new vehicle inventory before delivery.
  • Use OASIS to identify any affected vehicles in your used vehicle inventory.

 

DEALER-OPERATED RENTAL VEHICLES

Additional repairs identified as necessary to complete the FSA should be managed as follows:

  • For related damage and access time requirements, refer to the Warranty and Policy Manual / Section 6 – FordeBay logo & LincolneBay logo Program Policies / General Information & Special Circumstances for FSA’s / Related Damage.
  • For vehicles within new vehicle bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage, no SSSC approval is required, although related damage must be on a separate repair line with the “Related Damage” radio button checked.

OVERVIEW

The affected vehicles fail to conform to the new requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 305 for protection against contact of high voltage sources.  Potential contact with high voltage sources increases the risk of injury.

Before demonstrating or delivering any new in-stock vehicles involved in this recall, dealers are to install a protective cover over the Bus Electrical Center (BEC) fuses inside the high voltage battery compartment. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.

1. Disconnect the High Voltage Battery.  Please follow the Workshop Manual (WSM) Procedures in       Section 414-03B.

2. Disconnect the 12V battery.  Please follow the WSM Procedures in Section 414-01.

3. Lower both the rear seat backrests.  See Figure 1.

4.  Remove the luggage compartment cover on the High Voltage Battery.  See Figure 2.

5.   Remove the panel cover behind the rear seat.  See Figure 3.

6.   Remove the retainers and the RH side duct assembly.  See Figure 4.

  • Torque to 62 lb.in (7 Nm).

7.   Remove the retainers and the jumper harness cover.  See Figure 5.

8.   Install the BEC protective cover.  See Figure 6.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

FordeBay logo Motor Company has decided that your vehicle, with the VIN shown above, fails to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 305; Electric-powered vehicles: electrolyte spillage and electrical shock protection.

We apologize for this situation and want to assure you that, with your assistance, we will correct this condition. Our commitment, together with your dealer, is to provide you with the highest level of service and support.

What is the issue?On your vehicle, if the high voltage battery service disconnect access panel located behind the rear seat is removed, it may be possible to make contact with an uncovered high voltage fuse through a small gap.
What is the risk?Potential contact with high voltage sources increases the risk of injury.
What will FordeBay logo and your dealer do?FordeBay logo Motor Company has authorized your dealer to install a protective cover over the fuses inside the high voltage battery compartment free of charge (parts and labor).
How long will it take?The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to service scheduling requirements, your dealer may need your vehicle for a longer period of time.
What should you do?Please call your dealer without delay and request a service date for Recall 19C05. Provide the dealer with your VIN, which is printed near your name at the beginning of this letter.

FordeBay logo has not issued instructions to stop driving your vehicle under this compliance recall. You should contact your dealer for an appointment to have your vehicle remedied as soon as practicable. You can continue to safely drive your vehicle.
