| CREAK NOISE DURING BODY FLEX AND/OR TWIST – LEFT SIDE B PILLAR AND/OR LEFT SIDE ROCKER PANEL – BUILT ON 17-JAN-2017 AND THROUGH 15-MAY-2017 |

ISSUE:
Some 2017 Escape vehicles built on 17-Jan-2017 and through 15-May-2017 may exhibit a creak noise during body flex and/or twist coming from the left side lower B-pillar and/or rocker panel. This may be due to a lack of rocker panel bracket to inner rocker panel clearance.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
- Drive the vehicle over uneven, rough roads and/or twist body structure by performing turns. Does the vehicle exhibit a creak noise from the left side rocker panel and/or lower B-pillar area?
- Yes – proceed to Step 2.
- No – this article does not apply. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04 for normal diagnostics.
- Remove the left rear wheel and tire. Refer to WSM, Section 204-04.
- Remove one plastic push pin from the left rear fender splash shield and position the fender splash shield aside. Remove the rubber body plug installed in the end of the rocker panel.
- Using a prybar or equivalent tool of approximately 61 cm (24”) long, create a 2-4 mm (0.079-0.157 inches) clearance between the rocker panel bracket and the rocker inner panel. (Figure 1)
Figure 1 – 17-0059 - Apply ValuGard™ Rust Inhibitor VG104, VG104A or equivalent to the inner surfaces of the rocker panel where interior corrosion coating damage may have occurred during the prying process. Refer to WSM, Section 501-25.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure. Refer to WSM, Section 204-04.
