This article supersedes TSB 16-0096 to update the Service Procedure.

ISSUE:

Some 2016 Explorer vehicles equipped with front parking aid and built on or before 10-May-2016 may exhibit an intermittent front parking aid fault in the message center that may or may not include DTCs in the parking aid module (PAM). This may be due to water intrusion into the front bumper wire harness.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-19.
Replace the front bumper wire harness.
1. Inspect all front parking aid sensor terminals and the female side of connector C134 for corrosion or signs of water intrusion. Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 145.
  1. If any of the sensor terminals show signs of water intrusion, use shop air to remove water/moisture from the sensor terminals and add Motorcraft Electrical Grease.
  2. If the female side of connector C134 shows signs of corrosion, replace it with the female service pigtail kit as necessary and add Motorcraft Electrical Grease.
